WhatsApp To Shut Down Support For Several Smartphones and Operating Systems As Of 2020

In January 2019, the WhatsApp instant messaging app will be ten years old. The platform, developed by Brian Acton and Jan Koum as a smart agenda, has ever since evolved into one of the most popular messaging applications on iOS and Android. All that thanks to its features.

After Facebook purchased it in 2013, the company has introduced a large number of new features including GIFs, WhatsApp stickers, and WhatsApp stories. However, not every smartphone can run the most recent WhatsApp updates, so here are those smartphones that won’t support WhatsApp starting with 2020.

As I’ve mentioned, not all mobiles can support the new WhatsApp features. For the same reason, the company devised a route plan in December 2016 announcing that it would begin to cancel support for those smartphones that do not have the necessary capabilities to support future upgrades.

WhatsApp To Shut Down Support For Several Smartphones and Operating Systems As Of 2020

In June 2017, the WhatsApp became inaccessible for all Android 2.1. and 2.2., Windows Phone 7, iOS 6 and iPhone 3GS devices. A decision that also affected Nokia Symbian S60 users. As of January 1st, 2019, WhatsApp will shut down support for Nokia S40 either, as the company explains on its official blog.

Through a statement, the company confirmed that the list of mobile phones that will not enjoy WhatsApp support would be expanded to 2020. Specifically, the application will stop working on all mobile phones with Android 2.3.7 operating system or earlier and iPhone mobiles with iOS 7.

As a result, the popular instant messaging platform will no longer work on one of Apple’s most iconic mobile phones, the iPhone 4. In short, if you have any of these mobile phones and want to continue using some favorite messaging apps, you will have to look for alternatives such as Facebook Messenger or Telegram to be able to communicate with your family and friends.
