While it is recommended that you keep your device up to date, there might be certain reasons that should make you think twice when it comes to downloading the latest iOS version. Here are all the things that you should know about iOS 12.1 so you can decide whether you want to get the upgrade or not.

New additions

iOS 12.1 does bring some new things. First of all, we receive GroupFaceTime, as well as more than 70 new emoji. IPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR receive support for Dual SIM with eSIM. As always, the iOS update also brings some improvements and bug fixes. However, you should know that the new FaceTime feature is not available for all iPhones and iPads, and many carriers will only offer support for dual sim in 2019.

Disadvantages

Since iOS 12.1 appeared recently, this means that it might still have some issues. For example, a hacker proved that a flaw allows the security of the lockscreen to be bypassed. Other minor problems were discovered as well. Therefore, you might want to wait until it is more stable. Additionally, if you want a jailbroken device, you definitely need to use an older iOS version.

Available for all iOS 11 devices

If you own an iOS 11 compatible device, this means that you can also get the iOS 12.1 update. Starting from the iPhone 5S, iPad mini 2 and 6th generation iPod touch, all devices are able to get the update. You should be prompted to get the upgrade automatically, but you can also do it on your own by going to Settings > General > Software Update. The update is up to 500 MB.
