Google Web Services, Including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites, Got Material Design

Google web services, such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites, received the Material Design on January 15th. Users have already seen the new look on G Suite services like Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Sites on the web, which is just the most recent update of the Google’s redesign initiative that already impacted Google Account, search bar, and Google Translate, among others.

However, the new update Google implemented to its G Suite is purely visual, so no new features or under the hood changes have been introduced.

Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites got the new visuals which, according to the official Google blog post, include:

  • Interface typography that uses Google’s custom-designed and highly-legible typefaces
  • Controls (like buttons, dialogs, and sidebars) that are updated and consistent
  • Iconography that is legible and crisp, with a fresh feel

Material Design came to Google web services, including G Suite services such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites

According to Google, the rollout of the Material Design to G Suite services, including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites, will happen in two phases. The first one has already started on January 15th and is a gradual rollout with up to 15 days for feature visibility. The second stage will commence on February 11th when Google planned the full deployment of its Material Design.

Thus, on February 11th, all the remaining Google web services, G Suite apps, and other Google applications and services would receive the new Material Design.

Also, Google reported that all the new visuals redesign applied over G Suite services, including, as mentioned, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites, would be in-line with the design of Gmail and Google Calendar so that the users would have a more consistent experience across all the G Suite services, as MobileSyrup explained.
