Samsung Galaxy S10 In-display Fingerprint Sensor Receives a Patch via an Update

Samsung is trying a series of patches in order to fix their in-display fingerprint sensor after users complained that the reader works slow and it is inefficient. The company is using a Qualcomm ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor in Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus, which makes it the second phone in the U.S. to offer an in-display unlock setting after the OnePlus 6T.

While the OnePlus 6T’s in-display sensor used light, Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor uses sound to read the ridges of a fingerprint through the display, which means that it should work much better through water or grease. However, users reported that the option on the Samsung Galaxy S10 was awfully inconsistent.

Samsung Galaxy S10 received in-display fingerprint sensor patch via an update

Samsung had issued a new patch to the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus which apparently will make the in-display fingerprint sensor faster and better than ever. There is no way to manually activate the update for the new patch included in the new software update is delivered via Galaxy Store, and you’ll have to wait until it gets to your device.

There were users who already received the patch and reportedly said the update made the fingerprint sensor better but there were others who reported that they feel no difference between before and after the update. Despite the fact that it seems the new patch works or not, Samsung seems to try to figure out ways to fix it and offer the users of their devices a better experience.

We are sure that the sensor will improve as Samsung adjusts the software over time. Given the number of frequent updates Samsung is releasing for their phones, the fingerprint sensor’s efficiency may be very different by the time the phone ships.
