Scientists Alert: Be Really Careful with the Blue Light Emitted by your Smartphone

A serious concern

There are some cases where blue light was a cause of developing accelerated blindness and eye disease. A new study performed at the University of Toledo tells us that by looking for a long time at digital devices we end up killing cells from our retinas. This, in time, leads to macular degeneration, an incurable disease which usually can be found in elders in their 50s or 60s.

A chemical reaction happens when we expose ourselves to blue light and our photoreceptor cells are ‘poisoned’. Once these cells die, they are gone, they don’t regenerate. But don’t worry, there’s a way to prevent all this.

A helpful ally

An assistant professor from the University of Toledo, responsible with the chemistry and biochemistry department, has found a type of molecule called alpha tocopherol. Ajith Karunarathne, the assistant professor told us that it is an antioxidant derived from vitamin E and apparently, it can stop the poisonous reaction.

When we get older it becomes harder and harder to fight eye disease. Researchers hope to use this antioxidant to help their research in finding preventative measures, maybe in the form of eye drops.

Enemy lurking in the dark

Blue light is particularly dangerous in the dark. This kind of scenario can lead to the appearance of cancer, diabetes, obesity and heart disease, according to a study performed at Harvard.

Apparently, there can be a connection between blue light and a decrease in melatonin, the hormone that controls our circadian rhythm, our human body clock. When that’s off, so is our blood-sugar levels and that’s where all sorts of problems appear.

MacBook Air 2018 to Come Right in Time For Christmas

A lot of rumors state that Apple might launch an inexpensive device the end of this year. Earlier this year we were not sure if this laptop will be a new member of the MacBook Pro series, the MacBook lineup or it will be the replacement of the MacBook Air 2018.

All the leaks mentioned for the MacBook Air 2018 have been confirmed by a recent report, according to MacRumors. Quanta, the Taiwanese-based manufacturer, will make some new low-cost notebooks possibly for Apple.

Both Compal and Quanta are expected to ship as much as 10 million units for Apple and HP.

What will the new notebook be like?

Bloomberg News reporter Mark Gurman speculates that this new notebook will be a MacBook Air model measuring 13 inches at the possible cost of $999 or maybe less in the United States.

The current MacBook Air has a very similar prize to this new model. The new model might be another addition to the MacBook lineup. The current models which measure 12 inches come with the price of $1299.

Some other rumors

This September the tech giant Apple will also unveil a trio of iPhones the iPhone 9, iPhone 11 and iPhone X Plus, but the computing products might be reserved for October.

In October the company will introduce an iPad Pro with the new Face ID technology, a new Apple Pencil, and also the new MacBook.

The Mac lineup will be quietly launched with a lack of a media event, almost in the same way in which the new MacBook Pro laptops that got an eighth-generation processor from Intel.
