Instagram Founders And Leaders Announced Their Resignations

According to the US news portals, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger would not have appreciated Mark Zuckerberg’s growing investment in their application business. In yet another hard blow for Facebook, the two founders and leaders of Instagram, the photo-sharing application acquired by the world’s most extensive social network, Facebook, in 2012, have announced their resignation and will leave the company “in the upcoming weeks.” Sources close to the two men report strained relations with Mark Zuckerberg as the main reason for their resignations.

Kevin Systrom, Instagram’s CEO, and Mike Krieger, Director of Technology Affairs, informed the rest of the management team and Instagram’s parent company, Facebook, on Monday, of their decision, but without giving a clear explanation, as revealed by the New York Times, before the two founders confirm the news via an official statement.

“We want to take some time to explore our curiosity and creativity again,” writes Kevin Systrom, who points to the need for him to “step back” before launching new projects. Facebook, for its part, has not yet commented on these departures.

Instagram founders and leaders, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, resigned due to strained relationships with Mark Zuckerberg, some sources said

While the two Instagram founders and leader did not give an apparent reason for their resignation, yet, several sources from Facebook have told Bloomberg that both Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger had strained relationships with Mark Zuckerberg because of controversies regarding Facebook boss’s investments in Instagram.

This announcement comes when the Instagram application is fortifying its position as the leader of the social networks.

Created in 2010 and bought by Facebook in 2012 for $1 billion, Instagram has primarily monetized its audience in recent years, adding ads and other sponsored content to the application. In June, Instagram announced that it had passed the billion-user mark, benefiting in particular from the growing popularity among young people, a target that Facebook is now struggling to reach.

Instagram Video Tagging Feature Is Just Around The Corner

Instagram is the most appreciated and popular social network of the moment. While other social networks are declining, as we speak, for whatever reason, Instagram is going through a great period. The application is constantly improving, and, soon, the Instagram video tagging feature will arrive.

One of the problems with the majority of the social networks is that they are not improving their apps with the new features the fans demand. On the other hand, there is Instagram, a social network that is updated regularly with new features so that users are not getting bored with it. Therefore, its users have no reason to move on to another social media app.

So came the “stories,” those posts that last only 24 hours and can only be seen by those people who follow you, as long as you haven’t blocked them, of course, and IGTV, an independent Instagram-subsidiary app to share videos. And the examples could continue.

The Instagram video tagging new feature will arrive soon

The photo tagging feature is already a popular one on social networks, while video tags are something we cannot to at the moment due to their nature.

However, Instagram managed to come up with a feature to allow users to tag others in videos. Now, we will be able to tag people in Instagram videos, and the others will have the option to see the members we tagged in the description of the video.

The Instagram video tagging feature is being tested as we speak and only a minimal percentage of Instagram users can enjoy the new function at the moment. We shall wait and see when this new functionality would be available for all the members of this social network.

However, it is quite clear that Instagram wants its users to focus more on video contents since the latest new feature they added centered on videos.

Instagram To Verify The Authenticity Of Accounts And Add Two-Factor Authentication Via Third-Party Apps

More than 1 billion users of Instagram, the widely acclaimed online photo-sharing app, will be able to evaluate the accounts’ authenticity now, only a few weeks after its parent company, Facebook, Inc., applied similar actions to eliminate fake accounts from their social network.

Instagram said it would launch a feature titled “About this Account” that enables users to see which advertisements are applied to a given account, the country where the account is based, any changes in the username in the past year, as well as other information.

“Keeping people with bad intentions off our platform is incredibly important, it means trying to make sure that the people you follow and the accounts you interact with are who they say they are, and stopping bad actors before they harm,” stated Instagram co-founder and chief technology officer, Mike Krieger.

Instagram will verify the authenticity of users’ accounts and add a two-factor authentication system via third-party apps

Also, the social network stated that it would permit the use of third-party software, such as Duo Mobile and Google Authenticator, for two-factor authentication to provide users with more secure access to their accounts.

Two-step authentication provides an optional security feature, besides usernames and passwords, by asking users for an extra credential to access their accounts.

Earlier in August, Facebook added a similar tool for users who are managing pages with a high number of followers across the United States to help make pages more difficult to administrate for those who use a fake or compromised Facebook accounts. Those new tools will be made available to anyone in the next few weeks, said representatives of Instagram in a recent blog article.

As of yesterday, Tuesday, August 28th, Instagram allows accounts with numerous followers to ask for verification via a tool inside the app, the social network stated.

New Green-Dot Feature Makes Instagram Users Unhappy

If you’re an Instagram user, maybe you have noticed it too, the green dot that shows next to the profile pic of people on your list. Instagram clarifies that “You will only see status for friends who follow you or people who you have talked to in Direct,” so it encourages dm’ing people that you’ve already talked to before and also suggests new people that you can direct message (DM) with.

You can deactivate this feature in the “Activity Status” in the app’s Settings, the status is on by default.

By adding these features, Instagram begins to look a lot like the other social media platform, Facebook. We could call it “The Facebookification” of Instagram.

The dot status may not seem like too much of a change. These changes are often so subtle that are barely noticeable. Well, that is especially if you’re not exactly a compulsive user of social media.

Earlier, another feature that was introduced by Instagram is showing how many minutes ago someone in your DM list was active. This information is displayed as a grey status text, “Active 2 hrs ago” or “Active Now”. This feature looks exactly like Facebook Messenger.

This subtle changes are meant to turning Instagram into Facebook-like application where, the accent is put on sharing experiences in the now, rather than taking your time, making memories and than “latergramming”.

Most users, the ones who prefer the old calm and peaceful Instagram, are not very happy with the changes. For example, a demand was made to the company to return to the old chronological feed, but we all know how that ended. The Facebookification of Instagram is marching on. They are now working on an in-app time management, that is meant to reduce the attentional toll of these new features.

It’s not like users are thrilled about knowing when a person is  “active” or “online”. Mostly, the changes are meant to create a compulsive behavior, for users to keep using the app as much as possible. It’s a shame that Instagram is following down on Facebook path.
