FarmVille 3 – Is It Going To Be One?

The original FarmVille game was developed by Zynga back in 2009. Almost from the very beginning, this farming simulation available on Facebook enjoyed a large group of fans, reaching its peak in March 2010, with a record amount of almost 84 million active monthly users.

Since then, the numbers started declining. However, with the release of FarmVille 2 in September 2012, Zynga hoped to turn the games’ fortune around. FarmVille 2 was a clear improvement on FarmVille, but it has never managed to reach the level of popularity of its predecessor. Still, the numerous die-hard fans of FV keep hoping that with FarmVille 3 the game will see its return to glory days. The question is: are we ever going to see a new and improved FarmVille 3?

FarmVille 3 as a mobile game?

At the moment, there are no rumors surrounding FarmVille 3, which makes the fans wonder why is that. First of all, it looks like Zynga is trying to change its business strategy. As it keeps recording losses, the publisher turns its attention to mobile game development. So if we are ever going to see FarmVille 3, it is most likely going to be released for mobile devices.

Flash as an obstacle

Another possible obstacle is the rapid decline of the Flash platform, due to the fact that Adobe seems to favor HTML5. What this means is that already existing FarmVille titles will be available for some more time and then they will disappear completely. In case Zynga still wants to invest in FarmVille 3, it will face a major challenge of adjusting to the post-Flash world. Again, this seems to suggest that FarmVille 3, if ever released, will be a mobile game.

Uncertain future

For now, since Zynga is facing serious financial problems, we don’t expect any imminent announcement regarding FarmVille 3. The game keeps losing its popularity and with three already existing FarmVille franchise titles released for mobile devices (Tropical Escape, Country Escape and Harvest Swap), it seems unlikely that the producer will risk even bigger losses by launching FarmVille 3. However, time will tell.
