Google Ads To Remove Cryptocurrency Advertisements Ban in October

The renowned Google announced, through its support page, that it will partially eliminate the cryptocurrency ads ban it maintained since earlier this year on Google Ads. In this way, starting with October 2018, crypto advertisements will be allowed only for regulated cryptocurrency exchange platforms located in the United States and Japan. The restriction is still maintained for Initial Coins Offerings (ICOs), crypto wallets, and crypto investments consultants.

Cryptocurrency exchange platforms which want to advertise themselves on Google must obtain a certification issued by the company, to be authorized to conduct marketing campaigns, as Google reported in a statement released on September 25th.

Google Ads will allow cryptocurrency advertisements in the US and Japan starting with October 2018

Google Ads policy on financial products and services will be updated in October 2018 to enable regulated crypto exchanges to advertise their services in the United States and Japan. Advertisers must obtain a Google certification in the specific country in which they want to publish their cryptocurrency advertisements.

Last March, Google announced that it would begin restricting ads related to crypto coins and ICOs due to a change within its Google Ads’ financial services policy. The measure published 6 months ago went into effect in June this year. At that time, Scott Spencer, Director of Product Management and Sustainable Ads at Google, said they had seen “enough damage to the consumer or possible damage” through fraudulent advertising, so they made the decision to ban cryptocurrency advertisements.

The Google Ads’ decision to ban cryptocurrency advertisements affected the cryptos market

After Google’s decision was announced at the end of March 2018, the cryptocurrencies market suffered a fall due to the possibility of new regulatory measures. This brought the Bitcoin (BTC) price from $9,100 per unit to about $8,300, a drop of 8% in only 24 hours.

Now, Google Ads decided to remove the ban on cryptocurrency advertisements, similarly to Facebook which on June 26th announced that it considers revoking the decision to prohibit ads related to crypto coins. Both companies kept the interdiction on ICOs.

Facebook Is Up For Accepting Cryptocurrency Ads, Once Again, But Only Under Specific Conditions

Facebook’s ban on Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrency ads on its social networks, including Facebook, has been partially lifted. Now, only authorized advertisers can once again add cryptocurrency ads on Facebook.

In January 2018, when Facebook announced that it was no longer accepting cryptocurrency ads, the company immediately added that it was not a permanent ban. Facebook wanted to give itself some time to examine how to deal with this somewhat new type of advertising. Five months later, we guess Facebook found an answer.

Only the authorized advertisers will be able to use cryptocurrency ads on Facebook

Cryptocurrency platforms and other companies that want to advertise for services related to cryptocurrencies must now submit a request to Facebook and wait for approval. Advertising in favor of ICOs (Initial Coin Offering) is still prohibited with no further details being offered, but Facebook announced it maintained its opinion on ICOs, as this type of fundraising is often associated with misleading or deceptive promotions.

On the other hand, no advertising is tolerated for the binary options trading platforms that are allowing speculation on the course of the cryptocurrencies.

Facebook sees the blockchain technology that powers cryptocurrencies as something useful

Rob Leathern, product management director for advertising at Facebook, writes in a release posted on his blog that due to restrictions, not all cryptocurrency ads will be accepted.

“We will be attentive to reactions, we will examine how our policy works, and we will continue to study the subject so that we can review our position after some time, if necessary.”

Rob Leathern

Facebook sees the blockchain technology behind the cryptocurrencies as useful. For example, in May, the company created a research department on new applications for the blockchain technologies, directed by David Marcus, the former manager of Facebook Messenger.

On Twitter and Google, on the other hand, the cryptocurrency ads ban remains active.

Cryptocurrency Ads Bans Are Irrational And Inconsistent – Here’s Why!

I guess you remember when Google, Facebook, and then Twitter announced their intention to cut off all the publicity related to cryptocurrency. More recently, Microsoft has joined the fight against crypto ads. But, cryptocurrency ads bans are inconsistent and irrational. Let me explain to you why!

The argues behind the cryptocurrency ads bans

As all the big players such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft said, the cryptocurrency ads bans came to protect users from getting scammed because there are many cryptocurrency-related scams that would’ve been promoted via Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and so on.

As CryptoDaily put it in an elegant manner, wouldn’t be better to educate the public regarding the cryptocurrency instead of directly cutting off crypto-related ads?

However, Google, Facebook, and the others thought it would be wiser to directly ban cryptocurrency ads instead of promoting only those reliable projects that could educate users about the cryptocurrency’s world.

Cryptocurrency ads bans are irrational

First, Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft banned cryptocurrency ads but each one of them has its own interest in cryptocurrencies. As the BTC Manager said, cited by CryptoDaily, “both Facebook and Google have issued statements that show their interest in cryptocurrencies, specifically their underlying blockchain technology. This raises the undeniable question – Are the prohibitions on advertising much more than a decision motivated by the concealment of fraudulent activities?”

On the other hand, all the before-mentioned companies adopted cryptocurrency ads bans but still allow gambling ads, porn-related ads, and others.

Good job, guys!

Cryptocurrency ads bans are inconsistent

What Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft have not understood yet is that cryptocurrencies market is now a part of many people’s lives, therefore, it can’t be ignored. As you can see when you visit a crypto-related site, there are plenty of cryptocurrency ads provided by advertisers others than Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and so on.

Also, on social networks, you might bump into some links that are not ads but still direct you to crypto-related sites. And guess what? The majority of these ones are reliable and not scams.

In conclusion, cryptocurrency publicity cannot be stopped by cryptocurrency ads bans adopted by Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft, and, most likely this ban thing will be ditched sooner than you expect.
