Square Enix Teases Final Fantasy 7 Remake Again

Many Final Fantasy fans will argue that the seventh entry in the long-running franchise is without a doubt the best one. Now, Square Enix works on Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and the company released another teaser about it.

The original FFVII was released in 1997 for the original PlayStation, and it became a quick hit among the PS community. A major promotional campaign and excellent production values attracted near-universal praise from critics and players alike. Several publications awarded a large number of prizes to the game, which is also counted as one of the most influential and important video games of all times.

Square Enix teased a full remake of the title at E3 2015. The announcement was well-received by the community, and many looked forward to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The task was being handled by a third-party developer called CyberConnect 2, which published many PlayStation games, including licensed Naruto titles.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake, teased again by Square Enix

The studio ran into some development problems, and Sony decided to move the project in-house. The decision was based on the need to maintain high production and quality standards correlated with a reliable schedule. After the move was announced, a period of silence began. Some sources claimed Square Enix might cancel the game while others said that an extended development period should be expected for such a large-scale initiative.

The demand for a remake grew exponentially in 2005 when a tech demo which featured the opening segment of the game was showcased on a PlayStation 3 during the E3 convention. At that point Square Enix staff appeared to be against the idea of developing a remake, offering several reasons, including the wish to create new titles, the difficulties posed by a port and an extended development schedule. While the game offered a rich story, it is known that new content will be featured in the sequel.

A new cinematic trailer on Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released by Square Enix, featuring several iconic scenes. An official release date wasn’t announced. Game director Tetsuya Nomura noted that more information would be released in June.
