Apple Warns iOS Fans About Jailbreak Risks

The reason why people jailbreak their iOS devices is because it gives them freedom to install whatever type of apps they want, even the apps that Apple doesn’t list on its official App Store. Not just that, but there are services such as Cydia which makes it possible for iPhone and iPad owners to install paid apps for free. With that said, it should come as no surprise that Apple is completely against jailbreaking tools and that it recently sent out a warning to jailbreak enthusiasts.

Jailbreak Risks

The Cupertino based tech-giant rolled out a new iOS update on June 16th and the update contained an unexpected surprise, a refreshed official support page. The support page now includes a document which tells iOS fans of all the risks that they are facing whenever they install jailbreak tools on their devices.

The most important risk that Apple warns iOS fans about is security vulnerabilities. Apple puts a high price on user security and it always provides iPhones and iPads with top-notch security. However, Apple is saying that these jailbreaking tools are helping hackers and malware steal personal information from iPhone and iPad owners.

OS Instability

Apple didn’t stop at security vulnerabilities and it also said that people who jailbreak their devices might have to deal with operating system instability. The support page is stating that Apple devices which are powered by a hacked iOS will drain battery life, freeze, alter data connections and even cause the OS to randomly crash.

From the looks of it, Apple is determined to get rid of the jailbreaking community. Usually, Apple simply patches all kernel exploits that hackers manage to find, but this time, Apple has decided to take the fight to the next level by warning everyone about what can happen to their devices after installing a jailbreak tool.

Rawtx Lightning Network Bitcoin (BTC) Wallet Rolled Out For iOS

Rawtx released its Rawtx Lightning Network Bitcoin (BTC) wallet for iOS, on a test network. The wallet has been developed with LN Daemon, a software created by Lightning Labs that allows the use of the LN micro-payment network.

On May 9th the wallet development team announced its launch. It was then only available for Android devices. Today, the Rawtx Lightning Network Bitcoin (BTC) wallet is available on the App Store.

The application allows multiple wallets, and each wallet has two types of accounts, namely, a payment account and a savings account.

Rawtx opens and closes payment channels by transferring money from the savings account to the payments account, for the opening, and from the payments account to the savings account, to close the channel.

Lightning invoices can be paid by scanning QR codes, and Lightning receipts can also be generated and show incoming and outgoing money on the Lightning Network. It also provides information on the status of the LN network, such as the number of nodes, channels, and so forth.

With the release of the Rawtx Lightning Network Bitcoin (BTC) wallet on iOS, the project became open source

The team reported that they are working on bugs related to crashes and lost backgrounds, although, at the moment, the application only runs on a test network.

“Performance/bandwidth and storage utilization is our other priority,” the Rawtx team reported.

Since now, as the Rawtx Lightning Network Bitcoin (BTC) wallet is released on iOS, the development of the wallet will be open source.

To privilege privacy in the relationship between the wallet and the blockchain, the developers used Neutrino, a client of interaction with the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain from Lightning Labs.

The developers have proposed a series of tasks to be done, where they have asked for the collaboration of those members of the community who have the necessary skills. Thus, integrating autopilot, API development, Litecoin (LTC) integration, improving the GUI for payments, and even performing translations into other languages are some of the elements that the team hopes to grow with the help of the crypto community.

iOS 11.3.1 Jailbreak Tool Electra – An Update After the Exploit Release

The jailbreaking community has been impatiently waiting for another update about the Electra iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak tool. From the news that we have gathered so far, we know by now that Electra for iOS 11.3.1 is bound to happen. This is due to the latest Ian Beer exploit, a confirmed public release and we know of this from CoolStar as well.

According to the latest posts from CoolStar, all the needed components to update Electra already exist and at the moment he is working on renovating the tool. CoolStar has also confirmed that all the important pieces for the jailbreak have been put together and now he just has to put them all in the right place, while making sure that Electra will be able to perform in an efficient way. The jailbreak tool has to sustain all supported devices and firmware editions.

However, it is important to remember that CoolStar will work for now on creating a jailbreak tool for individuals who have a paid Apple Developer account. For the moment, these users will be prioritized. So most probably the public will not be able to have access to the iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak tool.

Nonetheless, this is not to say that users should pay $99 for a paid developer account from Apple. CoolStar actually advised people not to do this and wait for additional information about a public-facing release.

There has been no timeframe provided for the expected release. As you can probably imagine, having all the necessary components of the jailbreak tool is maybe just half of the work. Putting all pieces together, fixing technical glitches and developing something that supports all compatible firmware models and devices requires a lot of hard work. The tool has to be stable and reliable before it is launched to the public.

We will keep you updated if any additional progress is made. We also advise you to have your device prepared on iOS 11.3.1, while Apple is still signing the firmware.

iOS 11.3.1 Complete Jailbreak Tool is Now Available

Apple recently hosted its WWDC event where it unveiled everything there is to know about iOS 12. The major software update is scheduled to roll out during this fall and this means that jailbreakers need to step up their game if they want to unlock iOS 11.3.1 before Apple stops signing it. Luckily, Abraham Masri managed to create a semi iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak tool which gives us hope that a full version might arrive in the upcoming future.

Houdini iOS 11.3.1 Semi Jailbreak Tool

In case you didn’t know, Abraham Masri is an experienced hacker and developer who loves to take on Apple’s iOS. The developer just launched a Houdini iOS 11.3.1 semi jailbreak tool that uses the iOS exploit which was found by none other than Ian Beer, another prominent personality in the iOS jailbreak community.

Nonetheless, the Houdini tool is renowned for giving iOS fans the ability to access multiple apps, features and functionalities that stock Apple devices are not usually able to run. Unfortunately, this is not a full jailbreak, and this means that Cydia cannot be installed.

Complete Jailbreak Tool

We should mention that Abraham Masri is not the first developer to release a semi jailbreak tool for iOS 11.3.1 since the folks behind Electra managed to do the same thing. On the downside of things, the semi jailbreak doesn’t allow for a complete Cydia installation and it doesn’t fully open iOS to features and functionalities that Apple doesn’t agree with.

Although, having a semi jailbreak tool is better than nothing. Moreover, the semi jailbreak tool also shows that cracking iOS 11.3.1 is possible and that in due time, Houdini or Electra might be able to offer a complete jailbreak. The only thing we can do right now is to wait and hope that Abraham Masri, Ian Beer or other jailbreakers will find new exploits.
