iPhone XR Teardown – Raw and Unfiltered Power

The new iPhone XR has been officially released on the market, and in less than 24 hours tear-down videos were already published on YouTube and some even include X-ray scans.

The device features a rectangular logic board, as expected. The battery is similar in shape to the one found on the iPhone 8 but the cell capacity is quite larger. At an approximately 11.16 Wh, the battery is stronger than the one found on the iPhone 8 or X and only the larger iPhone XS Max battery is superior at 12.08 Wh.

Since the LCD display has a lower resolution in comparison to its OLED equivalents, battery life should be better as the energy consumption is notably lower. Breaking the glass on the back of the device will compromise the entire chassis and the cost to fix it will be quite high.

The XR has also raised waves as the smartphone managed to outperform every Android flagship currently available on the market as it scored awe-inspiring results in the GeekBench 4 benchmark.

The 2018 iPhones were less about new features improvement s and more about raw and unfiltered power, which does make a great difference in daily use as you can run more apps and they all work flawlessly. What makes the XR even more impressive is the massive score it got on the renowned AnTuTU benchmark app, which is used to set the global standard in the mobile world. While the other flagships weren’t able to go beyond 300,000, the iPhone XR reached a mind-blowing 363,500 setting a new landmark for future devices to reach.

The iPhone XR clearly aims to conquer the heart of Android fans and it may gather some significant followers.  Most Android flagships are priced at $800 for the base model, while some phablets like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 asks for $1000.

With a lower price of $750 for the base model the XR is sure to impress, as it offers the Apple quality and an affordable price.

iPhone XS and XS Max Hide A Great Secret Feature

Apple’s new iPhone 2018 models, iPhone XS and XS Max, are now on sale. While many Apple fans are still waiting for the XR model, iPhone XS hides a great secret feature which might be the best reason for grabbing one of the new handsets.

According to iFixIt, both iPhone XS and XS Max hide an additional antenna that enables support for Cat 16 Gigabit LTE but which also significantly improves 4G performance. In this regard, as revealed by the popular Android and iOS signal testing app SpeedSmart, the new iPhone XS and XS Max are by 2-3 times faster on 4G than iPhone X.

That’s a great secret feature that is very useful for heavy users and also one of the reasons why you should choose an iPhone XS or XS Max over the iPhone XR model.

The great secret feature of iPhone XS and XS Max is a good enough reason to choose these models over the iPhone XR

According to SpeedSmart, both iPhone XS and XS Max show a higher speed on 4G compared with iPhone X, on three US-based mobile carriers, namely, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

Thus, if you’re a heavy data user yourself, then you should go for one of the iPhone XS or XS Max models, and ditch the iPhone XR handset which, even though it’s appealing for its affordable price, lack this feature. iPhone XR, also, uses the same Cat 12 Gigabit LTE support precisely like the iPhone X, therefore, is slower on 4G connection.

However, besides its affordable price, iPhone XR might also attract some Apple fans thanks to its much powerful battery in comparison to both iPhone XS and XS Max.

Interestingly, iPhone XS and XS Max offer better performance on 4G while the iPhone XR model packs a much powerful battery. It makes us wonder why Apple did not come up with a model to combine all these features.

iPhone XS Vs. iPhone XR – Which One Is Better?

Apple presented its new iPhone 2018 models, the iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and iPhone XS Max, and now many wonder which is better. Today, we’ll debate the iPhone XS and iPhone XR. Let’s see how they compare and which is better.

Both offer almost identical performances

The components of the two new iPhones are practically similar. Both run a Bionic A12 chip of the latest 7 nm technology. However, despite the 1 GB RAM difference between them (with XS boasting 4 GB RAM), the iPhone XR provides a high level of performance thanks to a lower screen resolution.

The SoC A12 boasts 6 CPU cores (two for high performance and four for support), 4 GPU cores and eight cores for the neural part. Apple announced that the new 7-nm A12 chipset shows 50% more power than the A11 chip for the graphics part and 30% higher performance in computing power.

iPhone XR has a higher battery autonomy

The iPhone XR’s battery is the best one among the new iPhone 2018 models. Besides, iPhone XR boasts a Liquid Retina LCD screen which consumes less power than the OLED on the iPhone XS. Its lower resolution allows it to have a greater autonomy of almost 3 hours compared to the XS.

iPhone XS comes with a better camera than iPhone XR

Besides the significant differences at the display level, the other significant difference between the iPhone XR and iPhone XS is the cameras. While the XS comes with a dual camera system on the back, the new iPhone XR boasts only a standard camera.

However, this year, Apple has finally equipped its mid-range iPhone 2018 models with a super wide-angle sensor capable of taking pictures in Portrait mode.

The bottom line

Both iPhone XR and iPhone XS are great smartphones and boast similar technical specs. However, thanks to the dual camera system and the OLED screen, iPhone XS is definitely the best one of these two iPhone 2018 models.
