The new LG Gram 17, a new very light equipment, with a large screen of 17 inches and that, inside which, LG has decided to install top-of-the-range hardware, comes with high performance and an autonomy capable of reaching up to 19.5 hours.

The screen size of 17 inches is not one that is usually lavished among the segment of ultrabooks. After all, the main selling point of these laptop models is in the great portability and low weight. Therefore, in this segment of the market, what abounds are the models with screens of 13 and 14 inches, along with several of 15.6 inches. In general, the 17-inch segment is usually more reserved for desktop-replacement laptops.

However, LG with the new LG Gram 17, does want to create an entry into the segment of ultrabooks, with a laptop that differs from most of those offered by the competition, mostly regarding the large screen size and the high-end hardware the South Korean company’s laptop boasts.

Google Shuts Down Support For Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Seven years after it launched Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Google has decided to end the support for this operating system. It became official today when Google announced that would shut down Android 4.0, although they chose to do that several months ago.

The “death” of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will affect less than 1% of all the Android smartphones in the market, so this decision would not affect a high number of Android users. Maybe that’s why Google has decided that it was time to shut down support for such an old and unpopular version of its operating system for mobile devices. At its time, however, Android 4.0 was a significant change from the Android 3.0 series.

If you are one of the users that still have smartphones running Ice Cream Sandwich, you may wonder how this decision will affect you. Google’s move doesn’t mean that Android 4.0 phones will suddenly stop working, although they will most likely stop receiving updates to their apps.

Google Shuts Down Support For Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

From now on, Google Play Services will only be updated for devices with Android version 4.1 or higher. That means you won’t be able to update apps like Google Play, Maps or Music on devices running Android 4.0. Additionally, Google’s decision to shut down support for Android 4.0 also means that developers don’t have too many incentives to upgrade their apps on smartphones with Android 4.0.

One after another, the applications will stop receiving new versions, although technically it will be possible to update them for the developers, who, however, would not see as profitable the additional effort to develop updates for their apps for a version of Android that Google shut down.

In short, even if the device continues to work, it is cut off from any new developments, trapped in old versions of apps that have kept updating for those other, newer versions of Android.

Qualcomm Presents Snapdragon 8cx, Its First 7-nm Processor for Computers, Outperforming Intel

Qualcomm has introduced the first 7-nanometer processors for computers, outperforming Intel, which has not even switched to manufacturing CPUs with less than 10 nanometers. If we were to talk about a market-leading processor manufacturer for computers, then we’d think about Intel or AMD. However, Qualcomm, which is the leading chipset producer for mobile devices, wants to change that with its new Snapdragon 8cx.

Snapdragon 8cx Is Qualcomm’s First 7-nanometer Processor For Computers

That is not the first time Qualcomm has worked on a computer processor, having already tried it with the Snapdragon 850, which offered remarkable autonomy and sufficient power for most user tasks. However, the Snapdragon 8cx is not an evolution of this processor, but a revolution, as it has been entirely thought out and created for computers.

Qualcomm mentions that its new chip is designed to be very powerful, and although there are no official benchmark tests to reveal it better than other Intel or AMD processors, the firm has announced that it should be twice as fast and 60% more efficient compared to the Snapdragon 850.

As regarding autonomy, the Snapdragon 8cx will be able to offer up to 25 hours of battery use, and will be compatible with the Quick Charge 4+ fast charging system. As for the connectivity, computers with this processor will carry an X24 modem for LTE connections up to 2Gbps, but at the moment there is no information about support for 5G networks.

When Would Snapdragon 8cx Become Available?

Qualcomm has also announced that they are working with different companies like Mozilla to release Firefox on an ARM64 version, and many other developers will do the same to make several native options available.

The first computers with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx would arrive at the beginning of 2019, but we do not know with which manufacturers Qualcomm partnered up or at what prices.

Japan Government Will Ban The Use Of Devices Made By Huawei And ZTE

Japan government will ban the use of telecommunications devices manufactured by Chinese giants Huawei and ZTE due to cybersecurity concerns, according to reports on Friday. The decision could be implemented as of Monday, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper and the Jiji Press news agency.

Japan Government Will Ban The Use Of Devices made By Huawei And ZTE

The ban comes after the United States asked its allies to avoid products manufactured by the two companies because of fears they are used to carry out cyber attacks, says Yomiuri Shimbun, citing unidentified government sources. Japanese products that use parts manufactured by some of these two Chinese companies will also be excluded from government use.

According to Yomiuri Shimbun, the government does not plan to quote companies directly to avoid China’s anger. Asked about this information, government spokesman Yoshihide Suga refused to comment and said Japan “cooperates closely with the United States” on cybersecurity issues.

Western Countries Turned Against Chinese Tech Companies Huawei and ZTE

This information also comes after the arrest in Canada of Huawei’s top executive, Meng Wanzhou, which angered China and caused sharp falls in international financial markets for fear that tensions between Beijing and Washington would intensify.

US authorities suspect that the Chinese giant Huawei exported, at least since 2016, products of US origin to Iran and other countries targeted by Washington sanctions. The company was already being focused by US intelligence services, which consider it a threat to national security.

Huawei’s affordable smartphones have made a substantial market into the developed world, but the company has faced several setbacks in large Western economies due to security concerns. For its part, ZTE received harsh sanctions from the Trump administration this year for failing to respect the US embargo against Tehran. ZTE had to cease most of its activities, endangering its wellbeing but was able to save itself by paying a $1 billion fine.

Xbox Scarlett Leaks Revealed That The Console Might Boast AMD Zen 2 Architecture

Although next-generation consoles have not been announced, we know that both Microsoft and Sony are working on Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5, respectively. Both will again bet on AMD CPU and GPU, according to the recent leaks. Now, Xbox Scarlett leaks revealed more details on the next-gen console from Microsoft.

Although Xbox One and PS4 appear to be recent, a sensation caused by the launch of intergenerational consoles such as Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, this is really a generation of five years old. The current-gen consoles, released in 2013 in their initial models, are already starting to show symptoms of exhaustion, and both Americans and Japanese companies are working on the next-generation video games consoles.

All rumors point to a presentation of PS5 in 2019, a console that will assemble AMD Zen architecture, rather than the outdated Jaguar that the console currently carries. Microsoft already confirmed that it was working on new consoles, one of them with the code name “Xbox Scarlett,” as well as another machine that would be focused on streaming games.

Xbox Scarlett Would Boast AMD Zen 2 Architecture

Now, thanks to new Xbox Scarlett leaks from Brad Sams, one of the most famous insiders specializing in Microsoft rumors, we have the first details on the next-gen console from Microsoft. According to Sams, Xbox Scarlett would launch in 2020, and the console would be built with AMD Zen 2 architecture.

With AMD Zen 2 architecture, the new Xbox Scarlett would be able to play games at 4K and 60 frames per second. The current Xbox One X already achieves that in some games, so we imagine that they refer to 4K and 60 frames at best possible quality and without having to choose between resolution and frames per second, as currently happens in games like Forza Horizon 4.

The E3 2019 could be the ideal date for the presentation of the new Xbox Scarlett, especially since Sony announced that it will not participate at the next year’s event.
