Android updates are always interesting to watch, as it takes time to reach all devices, and users need to keep an eye out for the announcement for their phone. This time it appears that an LG phone is the one who received the stable Android Pie update.

LG announced the list of devices that will receive the update, as well as a date for each one. The LG G7 ThinQ was listed there, and the stable Android Pie was supposed to come out in 2019. It appears that LG is keeping its word, and it has been reported that the update for the LG G7 ThinQ started rolling out in Korea.

In fact, the Korean users started receiving Pie updates since November, but back then there were beta updates. This time the final stable version is about to become available for everyone.

Android Pie features

Android Pie comes with multiple improvements and new features. The revamped Recent apps switcher is one of the changes, and the new Android version also comes with a new gesture navigation feature. These are two versions that LG has maintained in its Pie version.

If we take a look at the changelog for LG Korea we can see the complete list of changes. For example, the update comes with a battery saving feature and users can now see whether an app runs in the background.

The camera received the Magic Photo function. The update also brings dual app functionality. This means that it is possible to install two versions of the same app so you can use with different accounts. The list of supported apps includes Facebook, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat, Viber, Line, Skype, Telegram, Kakaotalk, QQ Mobile, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), ICQ, Zalo, Hike Messenger, Snapchat.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Gets Android Pie Update with New Source Code

Recently, Mi A2 Lite became the more affordable variant of Xiaomi’s first smartphone. The Chinese’s company work was released when the Android One program was launched and it revolutionized the mobile market. The Mi A2 wasn’t the only prototype device involved in the program. It had a sibling – Mi A2 Lite and both of them were officially launched this year in July.

The most important detail about the two devices is that they were released with Android 8.1 Oreo. Surprisingly, a lot of mobile companies were preparing for the future, so developers had to think about ways to update their systems once Android Pie will be out.

Thanks to the Oreo Kernel source code, Xiaomi Mi A2 and A2 Lite are receiving the Android Pie update

A month after both devices from Xiaomi were launched, the company announced another revolution in the mobile industry. They released the Oreo kernel source code for Xiaomi Mi A2 and A2 Lite, waiting for the right moment to put their new friends to work.

Ever since they were released, the Kernel source codes were expected to contribute to a successful beginning of the update campaign, especially because they support the developer’s community in this quest. Xiaomi is known to be kind of slow when they release source codes.

Xioami users had to wait a long time until the Kernel source codes for Android Pie were available. Now, we are getting close to the end of 2018. The last few months where very busy, because more and more devices are getting the Android Pie update.

A few weeks ago, the Kernel source codes were finally up for Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite and within the last days they became available for download on GitHub. Now, these devices can finally be updated to Android Pie.

Is The Android Pie Update For Nokia 8 Delayed For a Marketing Strategy?

As you can remember already, Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco users were promised the Android 9 Pie update. According to HDM Global, the update was supposed to roll out in November, but as we already know, that did not happen.

While users were told that some issues stopped the update, it appears that the delay might have been intentional. Twitter account Nokia anew posted a series of tweets that seemed to suggest a hidden strategy. It is believed that the update wasn’t released in order to boost the sales of Nokia 8.1.

“So, updates to Android Pie for Nokia 5, 6 and 8 are ready. Update for 8 they are going to do on the last day of the month or in January. What is this done for? To push sales of Nokia 8.1. The update was completely ready a month ago. Idea from @sarvikas @NokiamobBlog #nokia8” tweeted Nokia anew on December 7.

Truth be told, it is rather confusing that old devices such as Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 have received the Android 9 update, or will receive it really soon, while it will take more time to roll it out for Nokia 8 users.

The response

It appears that HDM Global took these accusations seriously. The allegations were denied via the Twitter account of Juho Sarvikas. Nokia 8 users were also promised to get the update as soon as possible. The tweet also explained that a lot of work is needed for each device.

“I hope you know that we would never do such a thing. Each chipset family and each product in it requires dedicated work. We have an extreme focus here and push updates as fast as possible,” replied Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer.

Android Pie Update for Motorola, HTC and Samsung phones – When Can You Get It

Many of us were impatiently waiting for the newest OS for Android and now it’s finally here. But can you already get Android Pie on your device? And when? Luckily for you, we have the answers to these questions. Some manufacturers have already announced when their devices will get the new operating system. So let’s take a look at when Pie will become available for different devices.

Google

It should be obvious that the tech giant would not make people who have their phones wait for the update. So Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL already have Android P.

Essential

This company was part of the Android P beta program and now Essential phones get to be upgraded to Pie.

Motorola

In case you own a Motorola phone, you will need to wait a little bit more. Based on what we know from the manufacturer, Moto Z3, Moto Z3 Play, Moto Z2 Force Edition, Moto Z2 Play, Moto X4, Moto G6 Plus, Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play will become eligible for the newest update in the autumn, though no specific data was given.

HTC

The company mentioned that there is no official date yet for when HTC U12+, HTC U11, HTC U11+ and HTCU11 will get Pie, but it should happen a little bit later, at the appropriate time.

Samsung

It is expected for discussions about the updates for Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note 9 to take place around March, and then few months later for the upgrade to become available for Samsung devices.

Sony

Devices from Sony will also get Pie in the autumn, so you should expect the update to become available in November. However, this only applies to the following devices: Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ2 compact, Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1 and XZ1 Compact. But if you have either XA2, XA2 Ultra or XA2 Plus, you will have a chance to upgrade to Pie in early 2019.

OnePlus

Even though OnePlus was included in the Android P beta program, the new upgrade has not reached their devices. OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5/5T and OnePlus 3/3T should start getting the new OS, exactly in this order, in the following months.

LG

Unfortunately, the company has not provided any updates about when their phones will get the new Android P. We might have to wait a little bit longer for this.
