Xiaomi Mi 8 SE with Android Q Spotted in GeekBench

Back in the day, it took months or even years for an Android update to reach all devices. However, things are becoming to change and new Android versions become available faster. The current Android version is Android 9 Pie and most new mobile phones have it pre-installed.

We already know that Google Pixel is the first smartphone that gets the updates, but we did not know which smartphones were next. Thanks to GeekBench we discovered that Xiaomi will be the next manufacturer that will offer Android Q. Recent leaks revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE had tests based on the Android Q system. It was tested back on November 25.

Xiaomi Mi 8 SE

According to the leaked information, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE tested 1830 on the single-core score and 5819 on the multi-core score. The device has the Snapdragon 710 processor. The device comes with a 5.88-inch Samsung AMOLED notch display and it has the classical 5.2-inch dimensions, but with a larger display. The smartphone also comes with 6 GB RAM, a front 20 MP camera, a rear 12MP + 5MP AI dual-camera. By all means, this phone is considered a “small screen flagship”.

Android Q

It is hard to believe that Android Q will be released next spring, since Android 9 Pie has been released for three months. At the moment 0.1% of Android users have this Android version, which means that even more will have outdated versions once Android Q is released.

Each Android version uses the name of a sweet treat. For Android 9 we had Pie, for Android 8 we had Oreo, and so on. When it comes to the letter “Q” there aren’t many options available. Users did manage to find a couple such as queen of puddings, quaker oats, or quiche.

Google Plans To Improve Split-Screen in Android Q Permitting Apps To Run Simultaneously

At the moment, the split-screen feature in Android only allows users to display two apps but only one of them is active. However, Google plans to improve split-screen in Android Q permitting apps to run simultaneously.

Currently, split-screen on Android has a severe limitation as it’s not allowing users to run two apps at the same time. In other words, the active app is only that one with which the users interact, while the other one remains in standby. Luckily, Google is now working on an improved split-screen feature for Android Q which would permit users to run two applications simultaneously with the “multi-window” function.

Also, even though Google made some recommendations on how the split-screen feature can e used, many app devs didn’t take them into consideration, and the majority of the apps are not operating correctly in ‘multi-window” in current Android OS versions.

Google Plans To Improve Split-Screen in Android Q Permitting Apps To Run Simultaneously

The upcoming feature Google wants to implement in Android Q is dubbed Multi-resume and would permit for all apps in multi-window to run simultaneously. Currently, some manufacturers, especially Samsung, made some tweaks in Android to allow the split-screen feature to run two apps at the same time.

However, that new feature Google would implement in Android Q would be the first native split-screen function that would permit running more apps simultaneously. Also, at the moment, Android testers can probe this new feature, which would be a mandatory behavior in Android Q, on Android Pie devices. But, both the manufacturers of smartphones and app developers might opt-in for this testing phase.

Additionally, with the emergence of folding smartphones and Google Foldable tech project to make Android OS suitable for such devices, the split-screen feature would become a commonly used function, so improving it might be a mandatory step to take for Google to make its mobile OS compatible with foldable phones.

Android Q Name Details – Release Date and Arrivals

It was the 6th of August when Google announced the release of Android 9 Pie. In spite of all of these, only a few gadgets will get the OS by the end of the year. Truth be told, there are many users who are still waiting for Android Oreo to come to their devices.

The next version of the OS will probably be called Android Q, the 10th version of it.

When’s the release date?

There was only one time they announced a new version of Android earlier than the 6th of August, and that was in 2012. We don’t think this is the case for Android Q. We expect to see that the Android Q will make its appearance somewhere in March, while the first public beta will come in May.

What kind of desert to we get for Android Q?

We know that Android 9 P is called Pie, so what do we know about the Android Q? Because of the letter Q, there are not many foods to choose from. Quinoa Pudding? Quesadilla? We only have to wait until they announce it for sure.

Will I get Android Q?

We’re not sure yet. As an unwritten rule, midranges and premium phones get about two major OS updates. But that’s not necessarily the case here. Let’s take a look at OnePlus, which promised to do a third major OS upgrade for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. They first came out with Marshmallow, and now they have Oreo.

If you want to get Android Q, you’ll need to buy one of those $700+ mobile phones which have the pre-installed Android Oreo. But Treble could make it work for more midrange (like those smartphones from Nokia) with a pre-installed Oreo OS.
