Half-Life 3 Finally Happened, Thanks to Indie Developers

Marc Laidlaw was a former writer that worked on the first and second game in the Half-Life franchise. On the 25th of August, 2017 he released a letter called Epistle 3 through which he shared his perspective and feelings on how Half-Life 3 should look like from his perspective.

What was the story?

Well, to be fair there isn’t a clear statement that he wrote specifically about Half-Life 3, maybe because of some legal liabilities. However, it doesn’t take much to overlook the gender-swapping of characters or other disguised details and realize that the letter is an interpretation on the 3rd version of Half-Life (call it as you like, Half-Life 3 or Half-Life 2: Episode 3).

It represents the final chapter in the story of Gertie Fremont (or Gordon Freeman, if you’d like), as she calls herself in that letter. Officially, the story still hasn’t concluded and this letter was finally something to let us know how it could’ve been.

What happened after that?

Laura Michet, a writer herself, read this letter and decided to not leave it at that. In the evening that she stumbled upon the letter, she was with friends. They proceeded to read it and it had an impact on them, is that they grew up with the games and the never-ending expectations of seeing Half-Life 3 happen.

Then, inspired by the letter she opened her computer and started working on the game jam. They are similar to the open mics of stand-up. Here every veteran can try to dig into their own creative pools and see what comes out at the other end. Not just Laura but many other independent developers had a go and form this, emerged quite a few interpretations of Half-Life 3.

Valve Revealed Half-Life 3 At This Year’s Gamescom

At the entrance of Gamescom in 2016, you could find a sneaky poster of Half-Life 3. Rumors say this year will no longer be just a trick; this year may be Valve’s year, as Gamescom Exhibitor List has confirmed the presence of Valve at Gamescom 2018.

We have witnessed many appearances of Artifact, their Dota 2 card game which is in development for quite some time, regarding Valve’s games. It is generally thought that the company will come up with a more thorough showcase of sparkling or the same announcement maybe closer to its release date gap. Half-Life 3 may bring a considerable astonishment; rumors keep talking about.

Well, Valve will be present at this year’s Gamescom, Gamescom’s Exhibitor List has revealed, so everybody is waiting for what are they going to showcase. Since Valve has clearly stated that they are still considered as video game developers, it wouldn’t be a bummer even though they did not have such a good friendship with the Memers across the world who have always been searching for ways to meme them and troll them.

Aside from the rumors, we heard every single day, even though it has been 14 years since Half-Life 2 has been released, there is still no to show the date of the possible reveal or also about some of its features about the guesses made by their fans.

We do need to get over this situation until we are provided something. What this can bring to the fans across the whole world is either a huge surprise or a substantial disappointment. Taking that aside it is crystal clear that no one knows what Valve is going to showcase during Gamescom 2018 or how it is going to surprise us. Gamescom 2018 starts on August 21.

A Fan Made Reboot of Half-Life 3 Has Been Presented Recently

Half-Life is one of the most successful franchises from the gaming market nowadays. The first 2 parts or the game were incredibly successful due to its emerging character and interesting storyline. Now, the 3rd part of the story is waiting to be written, but so far, no news was confirmed on the matter, so we weren’t sure if Half-Line will surprise us again.

However, it looks like the 3rd part of the game might still be released. The storyline was revealed by Marc Laidlaw, an author with previous experience as scriptwriter for the Valve Corporation. His initiative was welcomed by fans who rushed into providing everyone with news regarding Half-Life 3.

Even so, after the storyline was made public on Laidlaw’s blog, some gamers had negative reactions, saying that they don’t like it. Meanwhile, the majority couldn’t wait to play the new game and see how the scenario would impact it, because they were left with the impression that the idea is really good. Unfortunately, everybody was disappointed by the fact that Half-Life 3 never happened.

Fans were tired of waiting, so they developed a Half-Life 3 Project

Months went by and nothing happened, so Half-Life fans have taken the matter into their own hands. Thus, the speculated plot became a real game which received the name of Project Borealis. The group who worked on it seems to consider their project serious and not an activity performed just-for-fun project. It couldn’t be otherwise since the group is currently using tools like Unreal Engine for their work.

All the fans’ efforts and the quality within the final product were presented in a video which showcases an intense process. Although we are talking about a reboot, the storyline, textures and environments leave us under the impression that we are playing the original game.

If we add the awesome graphics visuals and its surprising weapon styles we can understand why the reboot is a guaranteed success. However, we are still hoping to see the real version of Half-Life 3 and maybe all these efforts will convince developers to take measures for ending the long wait.

Metro Exodus is the Best Half-Life 3 We Will Ever Get

Even though Half-Life 3 might not be coming out any time soon, Metro Exodus might be the perfect alternative for it. The folks at 4A Games who are in charge of the Metro franchise didn’t shy away from saying that Half-Life 2 was their main inspiration for the upcoming game and that we are going to see a bunch of similarities between the two titles.

Metro Exodus Half-Life 2 Inspiration

The developers are saying that they love what Valve did with the Half-Life franchise and they want their games to feature a similar fun adventure. The thing that 4A Games “took” from Half-Life 2 was the linear storytelling and cinematic presentations, something which Valve is known for. Nonetheless, Metro Exodus’s developers are saying that the game will bring “the era of the best single-player games in years”.

Open World Version of Half-Life 2

Truth be told, Metro Exodus is quite different from Half-life 2. The only similarity between the two games is that Metro Exodus seems to be an open world version of Half-Life 2. Even though Half-Life 2 might be a huge inspiration for Metro Exodus, 4A Games wanted to give fans a “unique” game and that’s why they designed their own never-seen before weapons.

Not just that, but Metro Exodus also introduced a map system which makes it easier for players to figure out where they need to go next, thus adding to the open world feel to the game. Metro Exodus features a map that is filled with icons and NPCs which are guiding players in their missions.

Although, players are the ones who get to decide if they want to follow the path set out by the developers or explore the world and figure it out by themselves. This kind of feature is what makes an open world game amazing.
