New iOS 11.4.1 Jailbreak is in Development

Those that want to jailbreak their device and are currently running iOS 11.4.1 will be happy to learn that a Twitter user is hard at work on a jailbreak solution for this particular iOS version.

According to a source the news was posted by thihmstar, a famous developer that is well-known in the jailbreak scene. The announcement led to enthusiastic reactions since many people want to jailbreak their device.

Tihmstar is developing an exploit that will be compatible with iOS versions that go up to 11.4.1. While the kernel can be read it will take a while until the task will be finished. He tested the fix on an iPhone 6 but is unsure if it will work on other models, including those that don’t have a headphone jack.

In a later post tihmstar said that he managed to gain access to the kernel base but the exploit requires the existence of a headphone jack in order to work properly.

Jailbreaking a device has remained a controversial process since the first exploit was released.  The Cupertino company was against the process since day one and each iteration of iOS has become increasingly harder to crack as time passed. Apple has declared that jailbreaking is a dangerous act since it exposes your device to several risks.  If you decide to jailbreak your device and then face a problem Apple will not help since jailbreaking a device will void the warranty.

Those that decide to take the risk and jailbreak device will get access variety of tweaks and features that can improve the functionality of their device. But they can also download infected apps released by malicious third-party providers.

Until now it was possible to jailbreak a device that is running iOS 11.3.1. If the new exploit will be stable, it will mark a significant progress on the way to a jailbreak for iOS 12. It remains to be seen if tihmstar will be able to release the exploit in the future.

Downgrading from iOS 12 to iOS 11.4.1: Your Perfect Guide

If you’re here, you’re probably among those people who updated their iPhone to iOS 12 and are not pleased with all with it. We come with great news: you can go back to iOS 11.4.1. We’ve prepared some steps for you to follow.

Why should you do it, though?

Everybody knows that iOS 12 comes with some issues that make the overall experience bad. It slows down your device and it uses too much of your battery. You need to keep in mind that you cannot downgrade to the last version of iOS after the digital signature expires.

At present, downgrading is possible. But you need to take into account the fact that you only have about two weeks to decide what do to, before Apple stops signing the iOS 11 version. Also, any kind of change you made while you were using iOS 12 will disappear after you downgrade to 11.4.1.

What will you need?

To downgrade, you’ll need the iOS device, be it iPhone, iPod and iPad. Also, the iOS 11.4.1 IPSW file and a computer with Windows or MacOS.

How to do it?

First, you need to get the firmware from Apple’s website. Make sure you get it from a trusted source (never download it from an unknown site). Then you need to dave the file into your computer. Turn off the the Find my iPhone feature right from the Settings – you find it under your name in the iCloud settings. Then, you have to connect your device to the computer. Then, open iTunes. Click on the restore button, and at the same time hold Alt or the option for Mac and Shift for Windows. Then, select the IPWS file from your computer, and then confirm that you want to make the changes.

Will iOS 11.4.1 Jailbreak Release At The Same Time iOS 12 is Revealed?

This past couple of weeks have been filled with big announcements in the jailbreaking community. However, now that iOS 12 is getting closer to launch, every jailbreak fan keeps talking about an upcoming iOS 11.4.1 tool release. This tool is expected to launch at the same time Apple reveals iOS 12, which is next month.

iOS 11.4.1 Jailbreak Release Date

Even though everyone is talking about an upcoming iOS 11.4.1 jailbreak tool, no one knows anything about its actual release date. Not just that, but there aren’t any developers who are known to jailbreak iOS that have mentioned an iOS 11.4.1 jailbreak tool is coming soon. Therefore, we advise Apple fans to not get their hopes high and wait for official confirmation first.

Brandon Azad

The only reliable piece of information that we have about the upcoming jailbreak tool is that Brandon Azad is planning to attend a technical conference in September and that’s where he will reveal an iOS exploit that is compatible with iOS 11.4. Let’s hope that Apple doesn’t fix the exploit Brandon Azan plans to reveal.

Difficult Development Process

From what we can tell, the development process for the highly anticipated iOS 11.4.1 jailbreak tool is more difficult than expected and the tool might not be available in September or October. Therefore, jailbreak fans will need to wait a little longer until they can install Cydia and benefit from all the features that it has to offer.

Meridian Jailbreak Tool

On another note, the folks who are in charge of the Meridian iOS jailbreak have released the final version of the tool which is compatible with 64-bit iOS 10 – 10.3.3 devices. The Meridian jailbreak tool adds support for iPhone 7 and it allows users to install Cydia on their iPhones.

iOS 11.4.1 Fixed Exploit to be Presented this September

We know that everyone in the jailbreaking community is waiting impatiently for new updates about the iOS 11.4.1 jailbreak. We have some news for you and it’s about exploiting CVE-2018-4280, which is fixed in iOS 11.4.1.

What’s new

Just recently, on July 30th, a new message was posted on Twitter by a graduate from Stanford, Brandon Azad, who mentioned that he will be talking about “Crashing to root: How to escape the iOS sandbox using abort()” in September, at the beVX Conference. Azad studied Computer Science with the main emphasis on Systems and Security. Based on the announcement that he made, one month from now he will be giving us some details about how to exploit the CVE-2018-4280, fixed in iOS 11.4.1, by crashing it so that privileges will be elevated, codesigning will be defeated, and also in order to “spawn a shell on iOS 11.2.6.”

When should we expect the conference?

The beVX Conference, an event that is held annually, will take place between 20th and 21st of September this year, in Hong Kong, at the Marco Polo Hotel. Some of the main subjects that will be discussed at the event are complex exploitation techniques, reverse engineering, as well as vulnerability discovery. As we can easily see, the focus of the conference is mainly on technical offensive topics.

What else will happen at the event taking place in the fall?

Other than Azad, there will be other guests present at the conference that will give talks as well, such as Julian Rauchberger and Tobias Dam, Vitaly Nikolenko, Niklas Baumstark, Luat Nguyen and Sheng-Hao. However, these are only few of those who will be attending the event in September. There’s still a lot of time left until then, which means that we should soon have more names to add to the list of presenters. This will give us more topics to look forward to.

iOS 11.4.1 Jailbreak Status – New Updates and Leaks

Due to the release of the new iOS, Apple has stopped signing the old firmware, which means that unfortunately you can no longer downgrade your device from iOS 11.4.1 to iOS 11.4 beta 3. As we know, the iOS 11.3.1 Electra jailbreak is without a doubt a great solution for users who still have iOS 11.4.1 beta 3 and iOS 11.3.1.

So what are the news about the jailbreak for iOS 11.4.1?

For now, the devices running on the recently released iOS 11.4.1 cannot be jailbroken and there is not much that we know about a future release. As we mentioned before, the iOS 11.3.1 Electra jailbreak can be used for the iOS 11.4.1 beta 3 firmware and it’s no news that the jailbreaking tool has been a great success. However, we do need an updated version of the tool for the new operating system that Apple has just released.

What should we expect for now?

Based on a recent post by Redmond Pie, the best scenario would be for the tech giant to place a particular firmware into a pre-release stage, thus allowing developers and security researchers to jailbreak it during the beta period. Therefore, Apple would not be able to take care of the discovered vulnerabilities, which would, in turn, allow for the creation of a jailbreak toolkit that will become available for that specific firmware on its release. However, a jailbreak for iOS is usually launched once a major new version is already available for the public. This is exactly the situation that we have with the new iOS 11.4.1.

New updates should follow soon

Even though we don’t have much news about the iOS 11.4.1 jailbreak tool release, we hope that something will change soon, as the jailbreaking community is definitely waiting for things to start moving.
