Apple Patches iOS 12.2 exploits But Unc0ver Still Confident of Imminent Jailbreak Release

The most recent update of Apple, iOS 12.3, has closed down any possible hacking for the previous version, 12.2. However, there are independent groups like unc0ver that are working on unlocking the Phones and the iPads OS.

The security researcher, Dany Lisianky, twitted recently that with iOS 12.3 the vulnerabilities have been fixed. He listed in a detailed documents the update notes.

“Apple just released iOS 12.3, which includes patches for three vulnerabilities. I discovered: CVE-2019-8593, CVE-2019-8568, CVE-2019-8637,” the hacker’s tweet was reported by Redmond Pie as saying. The last one, CVE-2019-8637, can allow the execution of arbitrary code. The group unc0ver is claiming that the production release is going to be more stable and pack fewer bugs and that their jailbreak only supports non-A12(X) Bionic devices like iPhone 7, 8, 6s etc.

Another group member @Pwn20wnd dropped the beta 51 release of the jailbreak tool with some changes and recommended to those interested to save their blobs because iOS 12.3 went live.

A blob is a short for binary large object which is a collection of binary data stored in a database management system. Blobs will allow rolling back of iOS versions that are open for jailbreaking procedure.

“We have been working on major updates for both unc0ver and Cydia’s backend, to make them incredibly stable, bug-free and fast like never before,” the developer was reported as claiming.

The update showed that at least for the time being the iOS is stable and not open for hacking. In his last tweet @Pwn20wnd has communicated that the updates will work for now “on iOS 11.1.1, 11.1.2, 11.2.1, 11.3.1, 12.0, 12.1, 12.1.1 and 12.1.2.”

Although there was no commitment from the group we assume that they are still working on a potential iOS 12.2 jailbreak release in the immediate future.

iOS 12.2 Jailbreak Impossible? Apple’s Latest Update for A12-A12X Devices

The recent iOS update from Apple reached version 12.2, and the next one should be released around September. While some users just go with the official iOS version, others want to jailbreak their devices to get access to more features, but also making them more vulnerable to threats. With this latest update from Apple, hackers are having a hard time jailbreaking the update.

The Last Jailbreakable iOS Version for A12-A12X Devices

The jailbreaking community had received some bad news over the course of the past two weeks when Pwn20wnd, the unc0ver developer announced that the iOS 12.0-12.1.2 jailbreak versions of the A12-A12X devices might be the last ones available.

Apple updated the iPhones and iPads to iOS 12.2 and Pwn20wnd, who is behind the iOS 11 and iOS 12 jailbreak and the most reliable person in the jailbreak history, said that he has no hope for future jailbreak versions for the A12-A12X devices (also known as arm64e devices):

Today, he added that users must stay on the current firmware and block all OTA updates and wait for the A12-A12X support. He also retweeted the previous message in which he announced that unc0ver was updated for (arm64e) support and they are waiting for Cydia Substrate update:

The unc0ver team keeps updating the iOS 12.0-12.1.2 jailbreak version to fix bugs and stability issued and at the moment, they’re working on the v3.0.0 which was recently in beta and has now been released for public testing.

iOS Jailbreak vs. The Official iOS

Will the next iOS updates allow jailbreak developers to hack the phones since Apple is working harder and harder on making the phones more secure? We can only see what the unc0ver team has to announce.

If you plan on jailbreaking your iPhone or iPad, you should know that there are many risks: you may expose the phone to viruses or threats, and the warranty from the manufacturer is terminated after you Jailbreak the device.

New iPad and iPod Touch Models Hinted By iOS 12.2

Over the last few years, Apple has changed its iPad lineup with experimental designs and technical specs. The Cupertino-based company has finally reached a final version of iPad Pro. The last year’s iPad Pro 2018 models (iPad Pro 2018 12.9 and iPad Pro 2018 11) were both very performant devices on the insides and great looking on the outside, as well. Now, Apple seems to be working on new iPad and iPod Touch models, according to some references which say that the iOS 12.2 hints to that.

In the Apple store, we see the latest iPad Pro 2018 models, as well as the iPad Pro 2017 devices which boasts less performant components than their last year’s counterparts. Besides them, there is also the iPad Mini 4 which is already a little less than a 4-year-old tablet and packs even lower technical specs.

Now, however, a well-known iOS tinkerer thinks he discovered some references in the new iOS 12.2 version, which hint to four new iPad models and an iPod Touch device.

iOS 12.2 Hints To New iPad and iPod Touch Models, Reportedly

According to Steven Troughton-Smith, the one who discovered the iOS 12.2 references to new iPad models, the latest iOS version hints that Apple is planning to launch four new iPad devices. Most likely, there will be only two iPads, both of which would come out in their WiF-only and WiFi+Cellular variants.

“In theory, iOS 12.2 references four new iPads in WiFi & Cellular variants (perhaps mini, and 9.7″?), all without Face ID, and a (seventh-gen?) iPod touch with no Touch ID nor Face ID,” wrote Steven Troughton-Smith on Twitter where he also added the following pic:

Most likely, according to many Apple fans, the Cupertino-based company will roll out a new iPad 9.7-inch and the iPad Mini 5 (also mentioned in another recent leak), the direct successor of the iPad Mini 4 which launched in 2015. Besides, the iOS 12.2 also hinted to a new iPod Touch model.
