iOS 12 Jailbreak Update – What Do You Need To Know?

Not too long ago, in the middle of September, Apple released its iOS 12 update and not too far from this came the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Moving on to this week, we saw the release of the iOS update, 12.0.1. While it is a tempting upgrade for a lot of users, those same users fear that a potential iOS 12 jailbreak might soon ensue. In fact, one of the biggest reasons not to upgrade to iOS 12 is represented by waiting for the jailbreak.

Recently, in late September, the Pangu team released the first details regarding the first iPhone XS jailbreak. In a clip released on Twitter, they showed off progress a PAC Bypass performed on the A12 processor found on the XS model. Since the news of the 12.0.1 being released hit the internet, it might tempt you to upgrade to the iOS 12, or if you are already up to date, you might want to move on to the 12.0.1. However, if jailbreaking is a huge deal for you, then you are better of waiting a while.

Several years ago, the jailbreaking scene was a little bit softer, although, despite of the fact that the scene got tougher, we already saw some proofs of concept jailbreaks being done on the iOS 12, besides some info being released by researchers of security. Ali Security, for example, showed off in a video an untethered jailbreak performed on the iOS 12.

Being shot just after the software was released is definitely a good sign but it is still not connected to a team that previously released one, neither a public release. Luca Todesco, a Yalu developer, also shared a demonstration of an iOS 12 beta 12 jailbreak. So far, we haven’t heard about a certain iOS 12 jailbreak release date, not even a hypothetical one, meaning that you should hold on to your patience.

The Cybersecurity Division of Alibaba Performed a Jailbreak on iOS 12

It seems that the iOS 12 isn’t as tight with its security as Apple led most of us to believe. After it was released last week, it took Pandora labs – which is a cybersecuriy division working for Alibaba – just a couple of hours to jailbreak the mobile OS. The jailbreaking act itself was posted initially as a short video on Weibo and from there Yalu Jailbreak (with the handle @Yalujb) picked it up and posted it on Twitter.

By watching it you can see the process of jailbreaking the iOS 12 being done on a device that looks a lot like last year’s iPhone X. After the activation of the software, the user completed its task and then reset the phone. After this is done we see the iPhone unlocking itself without the need of a password or FaceID.

The video ends with a screenshot of the jailbreak app and the words ‘Your phone is pwned’ can be seen on the screen. This definitely isn’t the first time that Apple has been shown to be vulnerable in terms of its iOS. Previously, before the release of the iOS 12, Cellebrite, an Israeli company, designed a crack which could exploit and break into any device that had iOS 11 incorporated.

This happened during the time that Apple refused the FBI access to the phone believed to belong to the suspect of the San Bernadino shooting which occurred two years ago. At the moment of writing this article, Apple has yet to release a statement regarding the iOS 12 jailbreak. Yalu Jailbreak stated, however, that the code necessary for this jailbreak will more than likely never see the light of day. That is because Pandora Labs never released such a thing to the general public.

Improvements

Several apps were updated for iOS 12. If we take a look at the iBooks app we can see that it received an entire makeover, and even its name was changed. The Dictionary received some changes as well. There are bilingual dictionaries for Arabic and Hindi, and a new Hebrew dictionary. A thesaurus is included as well.

Apple Music now allows you to search for a song using its lyrics. This small update is quite convenient and it will definitely come in handy. In addition to that, the Radio tab replaced “Recent Stations” with “Featured Radio Stations”.

The Messages app also received numerous improvements. For example, those who can use Animoji will be glad to hear that there are four new Animoji. Additionally, it is possible to customize an Animoji in order to make it look you. Animoji also as tongue and wink detection, which is something that was not possible before the iOS 12 updates. Updating

This update is available for all iPhones, down to iPhones 5S. While older iPhones won’t be able to use certain features, such as the Face ID ones, the rest of the improvements are available for everyone. We should also add that at the moment iPhone 5S is the iPhone that has been able to get most iOS updates.

In order to get the update you need to head to Settings and go to General. Tap Software Update and your phone should check whether there are new updates available. You can start the update process right away.
