Android Q Beta Developer Preview Available for OnePlus 7 Series

OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro users can now try the Android Q Beta 3 and check out all the new features by themselves now that OnePlus has announced that their flagship gets a taste of that new Android version.

The Android Q Developer preview was already released for OnePlus 6 and 6T after Google I/O, and OnePlus did promise to bring the latest beta to the incoming series.

OnePlus 7 Series Gets Android Q Beta – Developer Preview

On the OnePlus forums, we spotted the announcement revealing that the OnePlus 7 Series is now in the Android Q Beta and that users can get an early glimpse at the next Android operating system. The forum post also warns users that only developers or early adopters that know the risks of trying the beta software:

As it is still in an early stage of development, we do not recommend flashing this ROM if you have little or no experience in software development or flashing custom ROMs.

Users that want to try the latest Android Q beta build should know that the software is still unfinished and will offer an unstable experience. Consider using another smartphone as your daily driver if you want to try Android Q on the OnePlus 7. Here are some of the known issue for the OnePlus 7 series:

  • Ambient Display is not working
  • System stability issues
  • Cannot send SMS when VoLTE is on
  • Navigation gesture is not working
  • Recovery mode doesn’t work
  • Some apps may not function as expected when running on this Developer preview release
  • Issue with MTP that doesn’t allow you to copy rollback file from PC to Phone

If you want to load the latest ROM upgrade, follow the instructions provided in the official forum post (link provided above). Remember that this is a developer preview, not a stable build. As always, make sure you have enough battery and minimum 3GB of storage space for the new upgrade. Also, make sure you backup your data before flashing your device!

OnePlus has already released the kernel source code for the OnePlus 7 series.

OnePlus 7 Confirmed Date of Release, Specs and Improvements

Due to the numerous leaks and rumors involving the flagship trio, we now have as much information as one can, with less than a month until the official release.

OnePlus 7 will be launched together with OnePlus 7 Pro 4G and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G models, and will be OnePlus’ first “notch-less” device because of its novel pop-up selfie camera. The back camera will contain a triple setup, 48MP, 20MP and 16MP lenses, also a first in the firm’s history.

The trio will be launched in May 14th, according to a leaked poster shared on Social Media by Ishan Agarwal. OnePlus 7’s price is still unknown but the rumors say it will start somewhere at  £499 and will reach £579 for the highest-spec model.

A leaked image shared earlier this week implies that the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G will contain a Snapdragon X55 chipset, and a Qualcomm built-in X50 modem which allows the phone to 5G connection.

The smartphones will also seem to have a 6.67 inch Super Optic display with curved edges. The absent notch suggests that it will have the same in-display selfie camera as the OnePlus 7 model. Another information implies that the OnePlus 7 will come with an 8GB RAM, 256GB storage and a triple camera setup containing a 48Mp, a 16Mp, and an 8MP sensor, along with Google’s Android 9 Pie OS.

The handset will have a volume adjuster on its left side, a power button and an alert slider on its right, the SIM card slot on the bottom, near the USB-C port.

OnePlus’ CEO Pete Lau reported that the OnePlus 7 won’t come with wireless charging support and will also not restore their 3.5mm headphone jack.

In conclusion, if it follows the release agenda of the OnePlus 6, then we can anticipate the new OnePlus 7 to launch in May, and a OnePlus 7T handset to follow later in the year.

OnePlus 7 Won’t Come Out With Wireless Charging, Disappointing The Fans

It is not the first time OnePlus decides not to introduce wireless charging in an outcoming phone, and it is also the case of the forthcoming OnePlus 7, as well. Pete Lau, the CEO of the company, during an interview with Roger Cheng from CNET, offered the fans of their products some pre-release information that would keep them waiting without losing their enthusiasm.

When asked about wireless charging, Pete Lau did not hesitate to address the question. Even though it has been widely requested before as OnePlus fans have been waiting for the possibility to charge their OnePlus smartphones without using a cord, OnePlus 7 will disappoint the fans.

The company’s CEO stated that the charging OnePlus has is one of the best, offering there a reference to the Warp Charge standard of the company which in approximately 20 minutes can charge OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, the latest phone of the company, to 50 percent.

OnePlus 7 Won’t Come Out With Wireless Charging

According to Pete Lau, fans are asking for something far inferior because wireless charging can’t even get close to what the Warp Charge standard is offering. However, as companies should also listen to the feedback provided by the people who buy their products, Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus, mentioned (not for the first time) that the company is still looking into granting its fans’ wish.

They are working on a wireless charging solution that would provide both fast and reliable charging. As mentioned before, the company will not add inductive charging to any of their phones, including OnePlus 7, until they are sure that the solution they create does not generate excess heat, an obstacle that keeps bothering them.

Pete Lau has also been asked about the new Quick Charge wireless charging platform from Qualcomm, but he decided not to comment on that topic. OnePlus 7 fans heard this type of news before, but the disappointment is still there.

The First OnePlus 5G Smartphone To Launch in 2019, And It Won’t Be The OnePlus 7

At the end of October, during the official launch of the new OnePlus 6T, the Chinese group also unveiled its plans to launch a OnePlus 5G smartphone across Europe. With its partner Qualcomm, OnePlus is not hiding its ambitions and hopes to be able to offer the first 5G-compatible phone in the coming year.

Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon said that they are “very pleased to announce that [their] collaboration with OnePlus will include a 5G smartphone in the near future.” OnePlus also shared some additional details about this highly anticipated OnePlus 5G smartphone.

Thus, OnePlus plans to introduce this first 5G smartphone at the beginning of the year 2019, which necessarily suggests an announcement during the Mobile World Congress which will develop in Barcelona at the end of February 2019.

The First OnePlus 5G Smartphone To Launch in 2019, And It Won’t Be The OnePlus 7

While it would seem right for the Chinese group to launch the OnePlus 7 as its first 5G smartphone, it looks like OnePlus wants to expand its mobile devices offer with a high-end 4G smartphone at an affordable price (the OnePlus 7) and a premium OnePlus 5G smartphone for those customers who want faster mobile data connections.

In this way, OnePlus would continue to offer a high-end 4G smartphone at an affordable price along with a premium OnePlus 5G smartphone. Now, the question is how and when the launch of this OnePlus 5G smartphone will proceed, given that the 5G network is currently unavailable in the world.

Last May, SFR and Nokia conducted a 5G network test in France. Now, obviously, we imagine that all GSM operators and smartphone manufacturers would join the 5G race with special offers and new 5G-compatible devices. Also, the Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple, announced that it plans to launch its first 5G iPhone somewhen in 2020.
