YouTube Plans To Offer Free Access To Its YouTube Originals Productions Starting With 2020

YouTube will offer users its own productions, including movies and series, free of charge thanks to an advertising-supported solution, which will be available to all users of the platform in 2020. A YouTube representative has reported the change of strategy to the US weekly Variety.

The platform owned by Google has stated that during 2019 “will continue to invest in programming with scripts and changes to make YouTube Originals, the company’s own productions, supported by advertising,” reach a wider audience. YouTube has said that this initiative “will expand the audience of YouTube Originals product creators,” and offer advertisers “incredible content that will reach the YouTube generation,” an audience of nearly 2 billion users within the platform.

YouTube’s new strategy is called “Single Slate,” and the spokesman said it would combine video-on-demand (VOD) pay-per-view solutions with free access monetized with ads.

YouTube Plans To Offer Free Access To Its YouTube Originals Productions Starting With 2020

The company’s original content, YouTube Originals, will be available free to all users, although YouTube has reported that it will keep some paid productions, such as the second season of Cobra Kai, a series inspired by the Karate Kid movies.

YouTube launched its catalog of original productions at the beginning of 2015, and since then new products have been added. Within YouTube Originals, there are series such as Foursome, Mind Field or the previously mentioned Cobra Kai. According to the publication, YouTube will include in its premium service early access to exclusive original content.

Currently, the YouTube Premium version offers the ability to view content without ads and the need for an Internet connection for $11.99 per month. This paid service has expanded to 29 countries during 2018. On the other hand, YouTube Music will cost $4.99 per month. For now, these new rates are only available in the United States, although the company plans to extend them to more countries, as well.

Nintendo Switch Console Gets YouTube App, Finally

A few days ago, a little mistake from Nintendo America suggested that YouTube was about to arrive on the Nintendo Switch. Last night, via Twitter, Nintendo confirmed the availability of the Google’s video streaming platform on Switch console, which is now accessible directly from the hybrid system. It is a free application, of course, and is downloadable directly from the console’s app store.

YouTube app is finally available on the Nintendo Switch console

In more details about the app, the YouTube application for Nintendo Switch requires just under 100 MB of space. Navigation is fully tactile on the console screen, with a resolution necessarily limited to 720p. As for the interface, there is no surprise as we find the same GUI as in the other YouTube apps.

That’s an excellent news for Nintendo Switch console’s users who are now enjoying the addition of very sought-after app to the Nintendo console’s app store. Some people would like to see other applications coming soon, starting with the Netflix app which should arrive, eventually, as the company is exploring a deal with Nintendo for some time now.

What’s next for Nintendo Switch?

As for what’s next for the Nintendo Switch console, the Japanese company is counting on the games that would boost the sales during the last month of this year. In particular, they rely on the release of Super Smash Bros Ultimate which is scheduled to roll out on December 7th. On that occasion, Nintendo will offer a collector’s bundle, but players can also count on third-party manufacturers to provide various accessories.

In addition to the games produced by Nintendo itself, Nintendo Switch console can also count on a few recent releases, such as Dark Souls Remastered and the recently released Diablo III. Of course, before Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Pokemon Let’s Go should also boost the Nintendo Switch sales.

YouTube To Come To Nintendo Switch Soon

As we speak, the only video streaming service available on Nintendo Switch is Hulu, and that’s not quite a feature appreciated by the console’s fans. Now, however, a new rumor says that YouTube would come to Nintendo Switch soon.

According to the guys on ResetEra, some hints pop up, indicating a YouTube app for Nintendo Switch pops up when users search for Nintendo’s website for games. Even though there is no product page linked to the before-mentioned app, many believe that those suggestions hint to an upcoming YouTube app on Nintendo Switch. Also, the same rumors popped up on a French site, Nintendo Home, where users reported they were getting YouTube app suggestions whenever they searched for Nintendo’s game site.

Hopefully, these rumors would turn out right, eventually, as the Japanese Nintendo Switch console lacks a reliable and popular game streaming service. If YouTube would indeed come on Nintendo Switch, that would be excellent.

YouTube To Come To Nintendo Switch Soon

When it came out in March 2017, Nintendo Switch launched with no streaming apps or options. Only in November 2017, roughly one year ago, Hulu streaming service rolled out for Nintendo Switch, while Niconico (a Japan-only streaming app) came out after Hulu. Besides, Netflix, the renowned video streaming service announced in January of this year that it’s in talks with Nintendo for adding Netflix to Nintendo Switch.

While Nintendo Switch is becoming more and more popular worldwide, it would need a popular streaming service to work with to fulfill the fans’ wishes.

As mentioned above, some rumors emerged in the US and France, too, saying that it is possible that a YouTube app to come to Nintendo Switch soon. That would be indeed excellent news for all the Nintendo Switch fans worldwide to get direct access to the world’s most popular streaming service.

YouTube And Google LLC Mentioned In The Documentation Of A Lawsuit Against BitConnect

According to some court documents filed on July 3rd, YouTube has been added as a defendant in a class action lawsuit against BitConnect. The lawsuit was initially filed on January 24th by six individuals represented by the Silver Miller law firm. The applicants claim that the cryptocurrency investment platform BitConnect issued crypto tokens which were unregistered securities, and obtained additional funds through a wide range of Ponzi Schemes.

The plaintiffs stated that their personal losses amounted to a total of $771,000.

According to Cointelegraph, BitConnect and its affiliated parties published a series of promotional videos on YouTube, which were deemed inappropriate as the material allegedly attracted potential investors to a fraudulent investment scheme. YouTube is said to have failed to declassify and demonetize published videos, exposing “countless” YouTube users to harmful videos and illegally promoting investment.

YouTube and Google LLC involved in a class action lawsuit against BitConnect

BitConnect’s top ten YouTube affiliates posted more than 70,000 hours of raw content, generating about 58 billion hits. The document says that the number of views from several of the affiliate promoters’ videos far exceeded the threshold numbers for the “enhanced” eligibility standards.

In particular, some users reported fraudulent BitConnect activity to YouTube, posting videos with titles such as “How the BitConnect scam works in great detail,” “Craig Grant explains the BitConnect scam” and others.

This case is not about YouTube being the speaker or editor of your website’s content. Instead, the liability is based on YouTube’s inability to act after learning from content published directly on YouTube from the easily foreseeable damage posed by its advertising partners. As the old saying goes, “Sometimes when you sleep with dogs, you get fleas.”

David Silver, Silver Miller law firm, for Cointelegraph

The plaintiffs claim that if YouTube had done a proper search of their databases, it would have removed the harmful videos from BitConnect. Instead, YouTube allegedly accepted an increasing number of videos related to BitConnect, resulting in numerous victims.

The document also refers to Google LLC, which changed its financial products policy to prohibit all ads related to cryptocurrency and associated content due to potential harm to users of Google-owned platforms, including YouTube.
