PlayStation 5 Technical Specs Revealed by Mark Cerny From Sony

We have some new information from Sony, some little teasers about the next-generation console. Those details come from Mark Cerny, the lead system architect of PlayStation 4, which reveals some details about the new coming console, the PlayStation 5.

The name of the future console isn’t yet confirmed. Cerny gives valuable information about the next-gen PlayStation. The fact that is based on PS4 architecture that it’s backward compatible and that it’s not coming only in digital format device, it will have as well physical disc.

Cerny says that the transition from PS4 to PS5 is a gentle one, numerous games will be released for both consoles, and that PlayStation 5 will be an iteration of its previous model, not very different like it happened to the PS3 and its predecessor.

PlayStation 5 will have an AMD chip with a CPU based on the third-generation Ryzen, with eight cores of seven-nanometer Zen 2 microchip, and will support 8K resolution.

Moreover, the graphics will be driven by a custom version of Radeon’s Navi line, and it can support ray tracing. The audio will be the best improvements on the new device. With the AMD chip, they can enable 3D sound for a better immersing of the player. The hard drive, on the other hand, will probably be a solid-state drive, towards the other equivalents in current consoles are slower. We know that an SSD is found in laptops now, but Sony wants to bring it and use it on the new PlayStation, and it will be specialized for the hardware.

However, this shared architecture between the two models will create a smooth path for games being developed on one of them, and later to appear on the other one. Other more information wasn’t given; it is still unclear when PS5 will be revealed and when they will launch it since Sony hadn’t participated to E3 this year.
