PlayStation 4 Update Leaked – What Novelties Would It Bring?

According to various leaks that surfaced recently, we are close to a new major update for the PlayStation 4. As expected, this comes together with an array of fascinating features to be implemented for this console.

What Do We Have So Far?

The most recent update we got for the PlayStation was back on March 30th. Back then, we enjoyed the introduction of the feature that offered remote play for iOS devices. This allowed people to connect to the gaming console just by installing the PS4 Remote Play app.

A couple of weeks later, Sony also released the much-awaited PSN Online ID update. Finally, players could change how they appeared during the online games they played. Needless to say, fans have been waiting for years for this update and it had arrived at last.

What’s Expecting Us in the Next PlayStation 4 Update?

Tidux is one of the most famous Sony leakers, and they didn’t miss the chance to bring us some news about the future update. As such, the 7.00 update will come together will plenty of new features when it’s going to be released to the big public. Gifting games on the PlayStation Store may not be such a faraway possibility, from what it seems. This means that players will be able in the future to add various games to their wish list, and a third party can buy them as a gift.

Besides this, we may also witness some changes to the user interface. Among this, we can count trophy progression, as well as some stats and timelog for all the games you played until now. This translates to the fact that users will gain an insight into how much time they spend playing and how much they enjoy the games. Finally, PlayStation 4 update players will have the chance to pin games to the dashboard, thus accessing them faster and easier. Keep in mind that these are not official announcements, so take it all with a grain of salt.

PlayStation 5 Technical Specs Revealed by Mark Cerny From Sony

We have some new information from Sony, some little teasers about the next-generation console. Those details come from Mark Cerny, the lead system architect of PlayStation 4, which reveals some details about the new coming console, the PlayStation 5.

The name of the future console isn’t yet confirmed. Cerny gives valuable information about the next-gen PlayStation. The fact that is based on PS4 architecture that it’s backward compatible and that it’s not coming only in digital format device, it will have as well physical disc.

Cerny says that the transition from PS4 to PS5 is a gentle one, numerous games will be released for both consoles, and that PlayStation 5 will be an iteration of its previous model, not very different like it happened to the PS3 and its predecessor.

PlayStation 5 technical specs

PlayStation 5 will have an AMD chip with a CPU based on the third-generation Ryzen, with eight cores of seven-nanometer Zen 2 microchip, and will support 8K resolution.

Moreover, the graphics will be driven by a custom version of Radeon’s Navi line, and it can support ray tracing. The audio will be the best improvements on the new device. With the AMD chip, they can enable 3D sound for a better immersing of the player. The hard drive, on the other hand, will probably be a solid-state drive, towards the other equivalents in current consoles are slower. We know that an SSD is found in laptops now, but Sony wants to bring it and use it on the new PlayStation, and it will be specialized for the hardware.

However, this shared architecture between the two models will create a smooth path for games being developed on one of them, and later to appear on the other one. Other more information wasn’t given; it is still unclear when PS5 will be revealed and when they will launch it since Sony hadn’t participated to E3 this year.

Sony Is Not Rushing To Launch A 5G Xperia

For many prospective smartphone owners, the 5G network is shaping up to be a significant selling point. While some manufacturers have already embraced the new standard by offering compatible devices, others are taking a different route. Sony is part of the second category, as the company is not rushing to launch a 5G Xperia even though the fans would love one.

Sony has showcased a smartphone with features 5G network support at the Mobile World Congress, but the company has already announced that the device is a prototype that won’t make the transition to a marketable product. Sony wants to wait until 5G becomes an established standard all over the world instead of being available in a limited number of regions.

The prototype presented by Sony employs the bleeding edge Snapdragon 855 SoC which is also featured in the new Sony Xperia 1. Since the chip offers 5G support, many were surprised to learn that the new flagship will not provide the standard.

We might have to wait longer for a 5G Xperia since Sony is not rushing to launch such a device

Sony Mobile president Mitsuya Kishia has explained the context during an interview. He declared that Sony is currently exploring 5G and the opportunities offered by the standard but the release of a 5G Xperia device will be influenced by the target country and popular demand. That might mean that Sony will release a version of the Xperia 1 which offers the new standard, but the company may opt to release a different device, too. The waiting time may not be too big since Sony releases a new flagship smartphone once every six months.

A massive 5G network rollout is planned for 2020, and the Sony Xperia 2 might be the sought-after 5G Xperia. Kishima noted that the company doesn’t wish to be the first to offer 5G smartphones and he is quite happy with the current direction of the company. Currently, Sony’s engineers are evaluating the performance of the 5G network.

It is thought that the design of the new smartphone may have played a significant role in Sony’s decision to skip 5G for now since alterations might have been needed to make space for additional parts.

Sony Dropped Out Of E3 2019 – Here’s Why, As Explained By Shawn Layden

Last year, in an announcement that shocked the gaming community, to some extent, Sony dropped out of E3 2019, stating, back then, that it would make some big statements about its future plans before the E3 event of this year. However, we didn’t receive a decent explanation of why Sony decided to move out of E3 2019 until now when PlayStation’s Shawn Layden came out to give more details.

“When we decided to take video games out of CES, back in 1995 during the PlayStation 1 era, E3 served two constituencies – retailers and journalists (…) There was a huge educational component (…) And there was no internet to speak of. So a trade show at that time of year for this nascent industry was exactly what we needed to do,” said Shawn Layden.

“So the trade show became a trade show without a lot of trade activity. The world has changed, but E3 hasn’t necessarily changed with it,” he continued.

Here’s Why Sony Dropped Out Of E3 2019, According to Shawn Layden

“Now we have an event in February called Destination PlayStation, where we bring all retailers and third-party partners to come to hear the story for the year. They’re making purchasing discussions in February. June, now, is just too late to have a Christmas holiday discussion with retailers. So retail has really dropped off. And journalists now, with the internet and the fact that 24/7 there is game news, it’s lost its impact around that,” Layden added.

On the other hand, “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you,” said Sony’s representatives for Variety last year when the company announced that it will not participate at E3 2019.

In conclusion, Sony dropped out of E3 2019 because the most significant game fair of the year is not anymore suitable for Sony’s plans. So, the Japanese company decided to come up with their own trade shows, focused on PlayStation, mostly.
