New “Lord Of The Rings” Online Game Announced By Athlon Games

Athlon Games announced they are working on a project of an online game based on the Lord Of The Rings universe. They also disclosed an agreement between the console and PC publisher with Middle-earth Enterprises for the license of using Lord Of The Rings world for a new online game whose actions would take place before the events in the books/movies.

“It’s a singular opportunity to work closely with Middle-earth Enterprises to create a completely new experience for fans of the landmark fantasy work of J.R.R. Tolkien, and we are excited about the resurgence of interest in The Lord of the Rings IP,” stated Dave Miller, the president of Athlon Games.

“This, along with several other major properties Athlon is working with, will help us to further our goal of creating AAA cooperative console and PC experiences that gamers will want to play for years to come,” Miller added.

The new Lord Of The Rings game would be a “multi-year online” one

The announcement didn’t say much about the upcoming new Lord Of The Rings online game, but given the fact that Athlon Games’ parent company Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited has “deep expertise with free-to-play game design” could be a signal that we’re talking about a free game, most likely monetized with in-game purchases.

As for Athlon Games, this is a new studio based out of Los Angeles with no games in its portfolio, yet. However, since Leyous Technologies Holdings Limited operates it, we should expect them to come up with some great titles.

“We believe in Athlon Games’ model to collaborate closely with Western developers to implement incredibly successful live services, while also giving its partners the autonomy they need to develop outstanding game experiences,” stated Alex Xu, Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited CEO.

On the other hand, the studio offered no further details on the new Lord Of The Rings online game.

PlayStation 4 Cross-Play For Games Like Fortnite Dismissed Again By Sony CEO

Sony created some buzz among gamers worldwide when decided to block cross-play feature for popular games like Fortnite between PlayStation 4 and its fiercest rivals, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Although Microsoft and Nintendo accepted the cross-platform play feature without many debates, Sony refused it, and it’s still against it, as the Sony CEO recently stated that “PlayStation is the best place to play,” so there’s no reason for them to support cross-play.

“On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief,” said Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida during the IFA 2018 in Berlin, Germany.

The Sony CEO also stated that they already opened cross-platform play for some titles, but they only do it depending on the best user experience. “But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform,” Kenichiro Yoshida added.

Some game industry figures accused Sony’s refusal to embrace PlayStation 4 cross-play for games like Fortnite

However, the remarks made by Yoshida didn’t go unnoticed by the rials from Microsoft Xbox, and Xbox engineering chief Mike Ybarra commented on Twitter that Sony is still not listening to its gamers.

“[Sony] still isn’t listening to gamers. All games should be cross-play and progression with the right input flexibility and gamer options,” wrote Ybarra on Twitter. “Larger gaming audience who wants to play together. Gaming is diverse, if you only serve to bring joy to the part of an audience then you are behind in many, many ways,” Mike Ybarra added.

Also, Pete Hines, the Senior VP at Bethesda, considered Sony’s stance on refusing PlayStation 4 cross-play for games like Fortnite as annoying. As regarding Elder Scrolls: Legends, one of the Bethesda’s titles, Hines stated that the “cross-play is non-negotiable.”

Dragon Quest XI – Here’s How To Open Red Doors And Metal Doors In Dragon Quest XI

While playing Dragon Quest XI and journeying around Eredea, you’ll bump into some intriguing doors that you won’t be able to open. Some are big, red doors with a golden triangle-like crest on them, while others are presenting some metallic bars resembling prison cells doors. Well, the only way to unlock these doors is to put your hands on some keys which will be available at different points across the adventure in Dragon Quest XI. Luckily, here’s how to open red doors and metal doors.

Unlocking red doors in Dragon Quest XI

As you progress in the game’s story and solve the situation in the town of Phnom Nonh, you’ll get a Magic Key. With that one, you’ll be able to get access to Sniflheim for the first time, but you’ll also gain have access through all the red doors in Dragon Quest XI.

So, before continuing your journey, it would be smart to revisit each city you went through until this point of your adventure to open some red doors and grab a lot of goodies. Ideally, start with Gallipolis City, Puerto Valor, and Lonalulu.

How to open metal doors in Dragon Quest XI

Unlocking metal doors is much more challenging, but not impossible. I guess every time you bump into one of these hard-to-open prison-like doors you’re wondering if you missed an important key on the path, but that’s not the case here.

Only the Ultimate Key can unlock metal doors in Dragon Quest XI, and you’ll be able to obtain this key late in the game, in a treasure chest you’ll see after an essential discussion at Haven’s Above. However, once you have the Ultimate Key, don’t forget to return to the places where you saw metal doors to open them and get lots of precious goodies.

It would be ideal to start with Gondolia, Puerto Valor, and Phnom Nonh.

In other news, Dragon Quest XI, which is now available for PS4, will soon come to Nintendo Switch, too, but an exact release date is unknown.

Pete Hines, Bethesda VP, Debated Some Fallout 76 Features On Twitter

Pete Hines, the VP of Bethesda and liaison of the company with the public, has spoken on Twitter and answered some questions from fans about what’s in store for us with Fallout 76 in some areas of interest, including the gameplay, different levels of difficulty, or in-game rewards.

Fallout 76 is the upcoming sequel in the Fallout saga, and it is a post-apocalyptic multiplayer role-playing video game. The game is expected to hit shelves in November.

Fallout 76 needs to be played in an organized fashion

For example, as Pete Hines revealed, Fallout 76 will follow the traditional Fallout saga system where different types of ammunition occupy different inventory spaces. So, to play the game organized is something that Hines himself recommends, advising players to invest points to improve strength or being organized, and “not to carry bullets for weapons that they do not own.”

“There are options, so you have to figure out how to solve every situation,” Hines added.

No different difficulty levels in Fallout 76

The VP of Bethesda, Pete Hines, also responded in a logical way to the possibility of the addition of difficulty levels in the new release of the Fallout saga.

“No, there are no different difficulty levels. The game is the same for every gamer because it is an online experience. There couldn’t be a creature with two different difficulty levels for two different players,” said Pete Hines.

A little more than two months apart us from Fallout 76 release date

As for the loot, there was also enough space for discussion. “The spoils are random. Not everyone finds the same things in the same places,” Pete Hines himself explained when asked about such a case by a gamer.

The post-apocalyptic multiplayer role-playing video game goes on sale November 14, 2018, for Microsoft Windows, PS4s, and Xbox One, and despite Fallout 76’s online orientation, Bethesda doesn’t want to stop making single-player games.
