Google Maps Update To Add Speed Limit and Speed Camera Features

In 2013, Google bought Waze for $1.1 billion. While it was obvious that Google would borrow some features from Waze and implement them into its Google Maps app, it took almost six years for the giant Internet company to take the speed limit and speed camera features from Waze and add them to its navigation application via a Google Maps update.

Google Maps is the most popular navigation app in the world, and it is available on Android, iOS, and Windows and Mac via its web-based version. Now, Google decided to add speed limit feature in Google Maps, but only across the US, UK, and Denmark. As for the other function, the speed cameras functionality, Google Maps will show it just across Australia, the US, UK, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, India, and Indonesia.

In the selected countries, Google Maps will reveal the speed limit on roads, while across the US, UK, and Denmark the #1 navigation app in the world would also display where the speed cameras are located.

Google Maps Update To Add Speed Limit and Speed Camera Features

The new speed limit and speed camera features rolled out in their testing phase in July 2018 in San Francisco, Android Police being the first one to notice them. Also, back then, the functions were available in Brazil, in Rio De Janeiro. Last Thursday, the features rolled out widely via a Google Map update, but only across the United States, apparently.

Google confirmed that the speed camera features would launch across Australia, the UK, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, India, and Indonesia in the upcoming days. On the other hand, the speed limit function would also come out, but only in the US, UK, and Denmark.

At the moment, we don’t know if Google plans to add these two features in Google Maps across other countries around the world.

iPhone SE Is Again Available on Apple’s Online Store

Silently, Apple revived its iPhone SE smartphone. The small, 4-inch Apple smartphone, iPhone SE, surprised with its appearance on the Cupertino-based company’s online retail outlet’s clearance section, that after Apple retired the device in 2018.

iPhone SE Technical Specs

iPhone SE rolled out in 2016 for $349 and $449 for the 32 Gigabyte and 128GB model, respectively, but Apple stopped selling the smartphone last year. Luckily for the small device’s fans, iPhone SE made its comeback to Apple’s online store where it costs only $249 and $299 or the 32 Gigabyte and 128GB version, respectively.

iPhone SE boasts a 4-inch display, while, under the hood, it comes with an A9 chipset. Thus, it is less performant than iPhone 7, for example, which comes with a 4.7-inch display and A10 Fusion CPU. However, iPhone SE has a lot of fans who would love to own a smaller smartphone.

Besides, iPhone SE boasts 2 Gb of RAM, 32 Gb or 128 Gb of internal memory, a 12-megapixel main camera, a 1.2-mp selfie camera with face detection, and a fingerprint sensor mounted on the front side of the device. As for the connectivity, iPhone SE comes with 4G, USB 2.0 Lightning Connector, and 3.5-mm headphone jack.

Why Did Apple Resurrect iPhone SE on Its Online Store?

While Apple did not reveal why it chose to restart iPhone SE sales, according to Digital Trends, the Cupertino-based company made that move to clear out any inventory it had and boost the overall sales. Apparently, Tim Cook confirmed, in a letter to investors, that Apple is now selling below the expected level, and the predictions for Q1 2019 sales are also gloomy.

Even though the statistics show that the interest in smaller smartphones like iPhone SE dropped significantly in 2018 in comparison to 2016 and 2017, there are many iPhone SE fans out there. Plus, iPhone SE’s A9 chipset is still very capable, so iPhone SE is not as outdated as it may look at first glance.

GBWhatsApp Vs. WhatsApp – Is The Mod Better Than The Original?

WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging app for Android and iOS. It comes with a lot of features, and its devs are always working to add some more and increase the app’s stability and performance. However, there are some functions that WhatsApp is not boasting, even though plenty of users would love to see them in the instant messaging application. GBWhatsApp, a mod of the original WhatsApp, is offering some premium features that WhatsApp has not yet added. So, GBWhatsApp might be the right option for many users. One question is now shaping up – Is the mod better than the original?

WhatsApp Features

The primary function of WhatsApp is to help people communicate for free as long as they are connected to the Internet. Users can text their contacts, engage voice calls and video calls, while they can also join groups and participate in group calls or group video calls, as well. Also, WhatsApp is fun to use with its many emoticons, stickers, and so on. Nonetheless, WhatsApp is also permitting users to share documents, images, GIFs, and videos.

You can join WhatsApp with only your phone number, choose a profile pic, change your status, customize the chat window, block annoying contacts, delete specific texts within chats, share your conversations on social media directly from WhatsApp, and so on. Therefore, WhatsApp is more than just a casual instant messaging app. Can GBWhatsApp bring more?

GBWhatsApp is WhatsApp But With Improvements

In short, GBWhatsApp features all the WhatsApp functions and elements, but also comes with unique services. First, GBWhatsApp allows users to create dual WhatsApp accounts in case they need it. If so, users can switch from one account to the other in just a few seconds, or they can open and use both of them simultaneously. Also, one can send 100 documents, 50 images, and videos of up to 30 Mb in one go, and users can also send a message to up to 600 contacts at the same time.

GBWhatsApp also comes with an auto-reply functionality and a DND mode so users won’t receive notifications. Besides, GBWhatsApp allows us to block incoming calls from specific contacts, personalize the app entirely with widgets, pop-up screens, and more, and lock chats or the app itself with a password without using third-party software.

GBWhatsApp Vs. WhatsApp – Is The Mod Better Than The Original?

As it’s almost always available with applications, it’s also a matter of taste and habit. But judging strictly according to the features GBWhatsApp and WhatsApp boast, then GBWhatsApp comes with all the WhatsApp features plus some unique functions you’ll not find in the original app.

So, is the mod better than the original? In my opinion, yes since GBWhatsApp boasts a lot more handy features than WhatsApp.

Streets are Safer now Thanks to IoT-Enabled Cars, Scooters and Bikes

New data types and sources breed new traffic solutions.

Bike shares and dockless electric scooters, no matter if they are human-powered or electric, they are still Internet of Things (IoT) devices. They and the smartphones used to activate them never stop generating data from integrated sensors which from there are transmitted to the systems of the companies where they come from. The information shared includes how long each ride takes, the location of each connected bicycle, which docks are full and which ones need to be restocked. All this happens in real time which somehow sounds futurists, does not it?

The system data of New York’s Citi Bike is publicly available for engineers, developers, and statisticians in case they want to use that information for development, analysis or they only want to visualize it. The decisions we make regarding municipal infrastructures and transportation will be influenced by the more open these data and technologies become.

Connected bikes and scooters provide data which can be continuously streamed and made into integral components of a fully responsive and functional interconnected grid which afterward process big data unprecedented in its variability, volume, and velocity.

The hub for similar mobility data types collected from sensors and hardware will also benefit from this especially the ones embedded within traditional and autonomous vehicles,  law enforcement networks, public transit systems, healthcare facilities, transportation grids, weather monitors, and more.

More focused insights will be produced by this mobility data at its most functional level, most related to peak commute times, fleet management, heavily trafficked corridors,  and other transit metrics that help to get the significant benefits of the “connected city” enhanced. Congestion cost $305 billion last year in the US alone, according to transportation consulting firm INRIX and it increased with $10 billion from 2016.
