Analyse Your Spending to Make Great Savings in 2019

With Christmas well and truly behind us, the first thing on sensible minds going into what promises to be a grimly uncertain 2019 will be their finances. We always end up spending more than we meant to towards the end of the year, so the beginning of the year is all about making up the difference by cutting corners. Making savings doesn’t need to feel like pulling teeth though and you don’t need to deny yourself many pleasures and conveniences in order to be more financially responsible. A good start is to make sure you’re keeping track of your spending patterns.

Metres

Many of us have a tendency to lose track of how much energy we’re using, particularly in January when it’s so tempting to throw caution to the wind and turn the heating up to counteract the Winter chill. Smart metres can not only be controlled remotely via an app but will give you a more thorough and detailed analysis of your energy expenditure. You can even get one fitting for gas and one for electric, so you’ll know not only when to dial the heating down a few notches, but when to start curtailing those late-night Netflix binge sessions too.

Apps

There are a number of apps (many of them free to use) that exist specifically to help you keep track of your expenses. Ranging from simple software that allows you to input your expenses, to apps that link with your bank account so you can’t cheat it! There is also a rise in mobile-only banks currently making waves in the UK, with Monzo currently leading the charge. Monzo became Britain’s best-rated lender last year, so it’s obviously far more than just a fad and these banks are far better placed to help you keep track of your finances.

Cards

The rise in popularity of contactless credit and debit cards might have made a few nervous spenders feel like they could let themselves get carried away without feeling like they’ve spent a penny, they are actually wonderful for keeping track of your spending. With cash payments, you’ll need to make a manual note that you’ve made a transaction, whereas using a card, you’ll have an automatic, electronic record of every purchase and every paycheque. Of course, a fair amount of self-restraint is required, but mercifully contactless payments are capped at £30, which will stop you from making any wildly expensive compulsive purchases.

Loans

Particularly with January 31st looming and tax bills needing to be paid, short-term personal loans can be a viable solution if your spending has managed to get out of hand and you’re in need of a quick cash injection to tide you over. Likely Loans is one of the few lenders that won’t charge you any hidden fees and offers a very reasonable APR.

Notes

It might sound old-fashioned, but if all else fails, keeping a financial notebook can be a more hands-on way of keeping on top of things. This approach, however, requires a fair amount of discipline.

HTC Vive Pro Eye VR Is The Next Step In Virtual Reality

Facebook and Oculus are out there already, aiming for the regular users, as the Oculus Go and the upcoming Oculus Quest are two of the most affordable VR headsets. However, HTC Vive Pro Eye VR is the next step in virtual reality since it’s boasting built-in eye-tracking, along with the functions of the already released Vive Pro.

According to Gizmodo, “the first benefit results from foveated rendering, which takes advantage of the headset’s eye-tracker to adjust which parts of a virtual scene get priority when processing graphics.” Sam Rutherford of Gizmodo also added that “because the headset knows where you’re looking, it can spend a larger share of computer’s performance rendering what you see at the moment while dialing back other images in your peripheral vision.”

That built-in eye-tracking feature is reducing the overall graphics requirements required to run VR apps while it’s also permitting devs to focus the users on what they want.

HTC Vive Pro Eye VR Is The Next Step In Virtual Reality

With the introduction of HTC Vive Pro Eye VR headset, gamers of those video games like MLB Home Run Derby VR would not need to use additional controllers to navigate through menus or setting. That is a significant benefit as it’s reducing the complaints about VR, as it’s lowering the complexity sometimes felt by the average users.

HTC Vive Pro Eye VR is the next step in virtual reality as it represents the second phase of development of the VR headsets, thus, being a more performant VR solution for those planning to play VR games or enjoy virtual reality scenes at their maximum.

During CES 2019, HTC would also present its upcoming VivePort Infinity which would be a Netflix of virtual reality. VivePort Infinity will offer users access to more than 500 VR titles against a single monthly subscription plan.

Intel Revealed Its SnowRidge SoC For 5G Network

At its CES 2019 press conference, Intel presented its intention to join the 5G race. Accordingly, Intel revealed it SnowRidge SoC for 5G network, the infrastructure of the Intel’s 5G cell phone tower base. However, this system is not dedicated to smartphones, but, instead, it is a wireless base station solution, enabling carriers that plan to offer 5G to improve the efficiency of the upcoming network standard.

According to Intel, this SnowRidge SoC for 5G network is made with 10-nm technology and has to be mounted on cell phone towers. Also, Intel said that the new chipset is similar to the silicon maker’s ‘Ice Lake’ computer and laptop chipsets.

However, this market is new for Intel which plans to reach 40 percent market share by 2022 thanks to SnowRidge SoC for 5G network. According to MobileSyrup, “a brief demo showed off during Intel’s CES 2019 keynote demonstrated how Snow Ridge is capable of serving multiple data streams from various types of applications, with total bandwidth amounting theoretically to 100Gbps.”

Intel Revealed Its SnowRidge SoC For 5G Network

During the Intel’s press conference in the preview of CES 2019, the company only presented the new SnowRidge SoC for 5G network, but it has not revealed the potential partnerships with carriers. Therefore, Intel might keep this information secret until Mobile World Congress 2019 which will take place in late-February.

As reported by MobileSyrup, “since MWC 2018, Intel has been silent regarding its plans for 5G, with the only exception being the reveal of its XMM 8160 5G modem back in November. The new modem is designed to work with smartphones, laptops, desktop devices, and broadband access gateways.”

As regarding technology for the upcoming 5G network, Intel fell behind Qualcomm. However, Apple will most likely use Intel’s SnowRidge SoC in its future 5G iPhone which would come out in 2020 or so.
