Samsung Galaxy S10 Radical Upgrade Revealed Accidentally

The upcoming Galaxy S10 is a big deal for Samsung as it represents the 10th-anniversary device. Yes, indeed, Samsung’s Galaxy S series turns 10 years old in 2019 and the giant South Korean tech company decided to celebrate that accurately with a high-end Galaxy S handset with an all-new design, a triple camera setup on the back, the brand new ‘ultrasonic’ in-display reader, fast updates and a Face ID-like feature. Now, however, Samsung accidentally revealed a Galaxy S10 radical upgrade.

The renowned tipster Ice Universe was quick to spot a critical design change in the upcoming Galaxy S10 device plus some of its specs thanks to an “anonymous” benchmark test he traced back to Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy S10 to boast a high screen-to-body ratio

According to the benchmark test Ice Universe spotted, Galaxy S10 would come with the new 19:9 aspect ratio and a 3,040 x 1,440-pixel display. Samsung S9 and S9 Plus boasted an 18:5:9 ratio and smaller screens.

This would be in line with the latest statements from Samsung according to which the anniversary device will have a more prominent display but without making the handset much larger than its predecessors. The South Korean tech company plans to achieve that by practically eliminating the top and bottom edges.

How was the benchmark test related to Samsung Galaxy S10?

According to Ice Universe, Samsung is commonly codenaming its devices using naming structures like “SM-G4x0” or “SM-G4x5.” The new benchmark test was conducted on a handset dubbed as SM-G405F, so it’s definitely a Samsung smartphone.

You might think that Samsung prefers to keep the secrecy around its work and hide any information from the public until the new handsets would be officially presented. However, they don’t do that, and they prefer leaking some information themselves as they did with Samsung S9 and S9 Plus.

Allegedly, the giant South Korean company does so to contribute to the buzz created online anytime a new flagship smartphone is about to come out.

iOS 12.1 Beta Comes Out With Face ID Support in Landscape Mode, Probably for iPad Pro Models

The first iOS 12.1 Beta version launched yesterday and seems like it’s boasting Face ID support in landscape mode, most likely, dedicated to iPad Pro models. Thus, there are virtually no chances to see this one on iPhone X or the new iPhone XS and XR as Apple would have to realign front-facing sensors.

This new mode for Face ID is undoubtedly made for iPad Pro models which are almost most of the time used in landscape mode and switching to portrait view to unlock the device with Face ID might it is inconvenient for many users.

New iPad Pro models are in the works right now, and they would boast Face ID and thinner edges, but as small as those on iPhone XS, for example, but pretty close. Even though Apple has not announced its new tablets on the event held on September 12th, the new iPad Pro models might get their official presentation in October, some rumors say.

iOS 12.1 Beta boasts Face ID with landscape mode support for iPad Pro models

The upcoming iPad Pro models, rumored to hit shelves by the end of the year, would be just two updated versions of the last 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch models. However, they might boast Face ID, while some other rumors say Apple decided to switch from Lightning charging to USB-C.

While the new iOS 12.1 Beta version, released yesterday, September 18th, is not bringing in many new features and improvements, it does come out with Face ID support in landscape mode and group FaceTime, previously eliminated in the iOS 12 release.

iOS 12.1 Beta boasted a lower score than iOS 12 in several benchmark tests, but that’s not something we should worry about since it’s only a beta version and the focus is not on the performance but the new features.

Apparently, the new iOS 12.1 Beta support for Face ID in landscape mode is dedicated to the upcoming iPad Pro models and not to iPhone devices.

Cloudflare Launched A Protocol For Decentralized Websites on InterPlanetary File System

The Internet security company Cloudflare launched a new product to facilitate file storage and navigation on a distributed network. It is a “gateway” to the content of the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), a decentralized storage protocol created in 2014 that aims to change the way we relate to Internet content.

The launch was announced as part of “Crypto Week,” prepared by Cloudflare to underpin a series of new “technologies that use cryptography to improve the Internet.” According to a blog post on the company’s website, Cloudflare will make a new announcement on every day of this week, starting with this Monday, September 17th.

The new “gateway” will not require installing or running specialized software for its use, as is usually necessary to access IPFS. Since many companies that develop smart contracts store their external data in this network, Cloudflare aspires that this tool becomes a platform for the creation of reliable web applications whose contents cannot be censored by governments, companies or other organizations.

Cloudflare launched a ‘gateway’ protocol to decentralized websites on IPFS

The InterPlanetary File System, IPFS, is an open-source project that is built as a distributed architecture, allowing file sharing through a peer-to-peer method, where files are distributed to thousands of computers or nodes across the global network. That makes it difficult for content to be accidentally deleted or lost because it is not centralized in one place. It also eliminates reliance on third-party servers to host content.

As for the functionality of the “gateway” the firm pointed out that accessing the billions of files stored in IPFS, is not the only thing that can be done with this tool.

“With the Cloudflare ‘gateway,’ you can also create a website hosted entirely on IPFS, but still available to your users with a custom domain name. Also, we will issue a free SSL certificate for any site connected to our gateway, ensuring that every website linked to the Cloudflare ‘gateway’ is safe from intrusion and tampering,” said Cloudflare team.

The company pointed out that it is evaluating other distributed ledger technologies as interesting as IPFS, which could benefit from Cloudflare’s new linking tool.
