Google Earth Update Download Available for Windows PCs with Additional Support for Browsers

Google Earth is an app that provides users with a 3D-rendering of the Earth by using high-quality satellite imagers. The developers have been working on improving it and the latest update offers new features.

Google Earth services

Developers have been working on increasing the app’s accessibility via web browsers due to the fact that it isn’t free. It can be accessed on the Chrome web browser which is owned by Google but will soon be available for Mozilla Firefox too.

Google Earth has two versions, namely Basic and Pro. The Pro version offers users print HD resolution screenshots, advanced GIS data importing (data about traffic count, parcels, etc.), the ability to edit and share movies offline with Quicktime HD and Windows Media and an improved measurement feature.

Regardless of the Google Earth version you have, its installation depends on having LSB 4.1 libraries, Windows XP, Vista, 7 or higher and Mac OS X 10.6.0 or higher. For the latest update, users will have to download the latest direct installers 6.2 and 7.x for Windows and Mac from the Google Earth support page. This update will include access to information about the places you would like to see or the least explored areas and even visit them in 3D view. Moreover, you can check and read about different travel experiences in about 40 available books.

What about Mozilla Firefox and other browsers?

Google Earth Support Demo for Mozilla Firefox has been published on Twitter by the Google developers themselves. The support is only extended to Chrome via Native Client. Google Earth Support will be offered on Edge and Safari but nothing is certain at the moment until the software is ported to Mozilla Firefox.

WebAssembly, an open standard to run code in browsers, is being worked on at Google which is already functional on Mozilla Firefox.

Google Maps is Scheduled for a Great Update – Improved Reality Navigation

Google is set to update its apps and Google Maps is one of them. Last week, The company inaugurated its ideas at the Google I/O developers conference. Some of the future characteristics are already available on test versions for a select group of users.

Custom list of locations

Google Maps will have the feature to mark your previous locations on custom lists. It will announce you through a progress bar when you visit one or more places frequently.

Improved reality navigation

By accessing your phone’s camera, Google Maps will make your journeys easier by using machine learning to detect the environment and location.

Better screen usage

When users want to access more information about a certain institution or location, they access the location information page. Unfortunately, this page is full-screen and takes a lot of space. Google Maps will no longer have a full-screen information page but a third-screen one.

Personalised recommendations

Google Maps accesses your own location history, the road accessibility depending on where you are and your Google reviews for providing a better location, for example a restaurant. A match percentage and a star rating will provide you the most suitable choices based only on your preferences.

New Explore tab

Just as TripAdvisor and Yelp, Google Maps will show the latest nearby activities and events.

Updated Material Theme design language

Google Maps will have colour-filled buttons and more rounded corners in order to provide a better app design. The practical directions and contact details will be featured at the bottom. The top will have pictures of the selected location.

The developers didn’t mention an exact period or date for the updates at the Google I/O last week. However, people expect the new Google Maps to be available in the following months.

WhatsApp Update Affects User Safety – Simple Solution To Fix It

Since WhatsApp has the option to block contacts, you would expect them to actually stay this way. However, after the latest app update, things went wrong. Last week, many users complained that they were still getting messages from these people despite blocking them. Moreover, these contacts reappeared in their contact list.

Are there any other options affected by this update?

Fortunately, other user options have been unaffected. The latest WhatsApp update has targeted group chat features such as limiting the number of members in a group chat as an admin or blocking any potential re-invites in an unwanted group.

However, a few weeks ago, a random “black dot” message appeared on the app screen and if it was clicked, it would download thousands of tiny characters and affect the phone’s CPU and render messaging capabilities, crashing the device in the end. You simply receive a message with very little visible text and a black circle emoji next to it. It can’t even be stopped by the traditionally close and then re-open the app method. Instead, not even restarting your phone doesn’t do wonders.

There is a relatively simple solution to this problem

For the app to finally take your option into account, people must toggle it on and off similarly to notifications. You simply remove the blocked contact from your Address Book and then you block it again. Users would have been better without having to do this again and again but it is still a simple method to block them for good.

It seems that the company has encountered various problems during the past few weeks. WhatsApp hopes to get back on the right tracks with the newly implemented options regarding group limitation, personalized description and keeping in touch – or not – with others.

A Monero (XMR) Mining Malware Affects Mac Computers, Apple Reported

This week Apple reported a new background mining malware called MsHelper, which is remotely installed on Mac computers and serves as Monero (XMR) mining malware. The malware uses the computing power of the Mac computers to mine XMR, thus, is causing slower performance.

The malware was posted on Apple’s discussion forums, where users claimed that a newly installed program on their computers caused them to lose control over their computers and used a lot of the processing power of the CPUs as it mines XMR.

“I have MsHelper constantly showing up on the activity monitor with the CPU at super high levels. I probably wouldn’t have noticed it, except that I installed BitDefender today and it keeps showing me that it’s being deleted!” said Ron Edwards, the user who opened a topic on the covert crypto miner on an Apple community forum.

After several investigations, it was found that MsHelper is another version of the XMrig miner for Mac but used in a hostile way to enrich third parties at the expense of Apple Mac users.

The Mac Monero (XMR) mining malware apparently come with fake Adobe Flash Player, pirated content, or infected documents

According to Malwarebytes Labs, MsHelper is not a sophisticated malware, nor does it generate large vulnerabilities in the registration of user information. It is also not strong enough to be easily removed by Malwarebytes for Mac or manually.

It is believed that the virus that mines XMR is installed in computers by means of programs such as Adobe Flash Player in its false version which contains the dropper that injects the malware into the computer.

In this way, users would become infected with malware by downloading programs from piracy sites or misleading documents but it is not yet known exactly which software offer deceives users.

At the time of installation, the MsHelper mining Monero (XMR) malware deploys a launcher that is hosted in the support applications of the Mac operating system. This executable file is in charge of keeping the Monero (XMR) mining active on the computer and thus affects the performance of the computer.

Malwarebytes said that it is increasingly common for Apple devices to be covered up with versions of crypto miners malware, as there have already been problems with the Pwnet, CpuMeaner and CreativeUpdate programs, among others.
