Three years ago its predecessor was released, and it did not come with massive changes from what the third generation iPad Mini offered, and the same will happen with this year’s model.

Same design – no change

Fans were hoping to get a slightly larger display integrated into the iPad Mini 5, but unfortunately, their wishes will not come true all the way. Its overall appearance will not be modified, but one great thing is that the bezels will be narrower and the display’s space increased. Based on what the producers of the pieces that go into this tablet discussed, the thickness of it will keep its 6.1 mm measurement, there will be no modifications in the size, and the bezels will not be minimized.

Apple had a lot of ideas to choose from, but it does not know if they should be followed

Some rumors suggest that the awaited USB-C connector will become the replacement of the Lightning one while the headphone jack measuring 3.5 mm will not be given away. The type of chipset that will be introduced into this tablet has not been decided yet, and people are confused whether it will be the A10x Fusion or the A10 Fusion. The latter powers smartphones like the iPhone 7 while the former equips the iPad Pro models.

Even though these changes do not seem too important, because impressive they surely are not, at least the performance will be improved compared to the one of iPad Mini 5’s predecessor. That could be good enough for people buying their first such tablet from Apple.

One exciting addition to the list of tablets that Apple will launch this year is the fifth generation of the iPad mini. If you are part of the Cupertino based company’s fans, you might get disappointed when you see that this iPad will not be as high as your standards-based from information provided by Mac Otaka, a Japanese blog. The reason why they state that is the fact that the iPad Mini 5 will not be too different from its predecessor. In fact, looking at their design, you will not be able to tell them apart.

What will (not) be changed in the iPad mini 5

People are not satisfied with what they hear about the next generation of the iPad Mini because it will have the same dimension as its predecessor while not giving up the 6.1mm thickness. In addition to that, the display will measure 7.9 inches as the older model in case Apple does not change the size of the bezels. The tablet is also said to be keeping the headphone jack measuring 3.5mm, the Lightning connector, and Touch ID.

There will be changes!

There is one design change that the company has decided to include and that being the placement of the rear microphone. It will be positioned in the top-center as the sixth-generation iPad’s one.

The report claims that the type of chipset the iPad Mini 5 will be equipped with is still unknown, the rumors fluctuating between the A10X that has been integrated into the Apple TV 4K and the 2017 iPad Pro or the A10 one that can be found in the iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, and the sixth-generation iPad.

As reported by 9to5Mac, iPad Mini 5 leaks emerged on the Internet, revealing the design of the upcoming Apple tablet. The 2019 iPad Mini would come out by mid-2019, and it would boast a new antenna design, among other changes, according to recent rumors.

“The only physical attribute that appears changed from the currently selling iPad mini 4 hardware is the antenna line for cellular connectivity. Apple currently sells a version of the iPad mini 4 that works with LTE and uses the mostly plastic iPad antenna design,” reported 9to5Mac.

Besides the revamped antenna design, the future iPad Mini 5 could come out in a new shade of gold. Currently, the iPad Mini 4 is sold in silver, space grey, and gold.

“Starting with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, iPads have switched to a more minimal antenna design that relies on a slim trace in the shape of the old antenna design (although the new iPad Pro has moved on to yet another design). No iPad that Apple has released has used that antenna style without a four-speaker system,” wrote 9to5Mac.

Also, iPad Mini 5 would boast Touch ID, a feature missed by the 2018 iPad Pro models. Nonetheless, the next mini Apple tablet would be the first the Cupertino-based company had released since 2015 when iPad Mini 4 rolled out.

The current-gen iPad Mini 4 is still sold around the world, and, in Canada, you can buy it for CAD 529. The future iPad Mini 5 would come out later this year, most likely by the mid-2019.

While we can’t be sure regarding the legitimacy of this leak, the images released via SlashLeaks are still interesting as they confirm the fact that the Cupertino-based company is working on a new iPad Mini.

As revealed by the leak, Apple might plan to implement many updates in the 2019 iPad Mini, including four speakers, a headphone jack, and a Smart Connector.

2019 iPad Mini Might Sport A Smart Connector

That information is also putting the legitimacy of the leaked images under scrutiny. Since Apple is removing the 3.5-mm jack from its other devices, it would be a strange decision to keep it on one of its future tablets, be it an iPad Mini one.

On the other hand, it’s about time for Apple to update its iPad Mini series which has not been upgraded since 2015.
