How Video Games Can Benefit Your Mental Health

A lot of parents out there are worried that video games can make their children violent, aggressive, or prone to neglecting their homework. And you know what? That’s somewhat true as long as the child spends too much time playing video games and if he doesn’t receive a strong education at home. Otherwise, gaming can be beneficial for people of all ages, and we’ll immediately explain why.

Gaming is a form of entertainment, and no developer or publisher created a game in order to make someone become violent or aggressive. Most of the time, video games display aggressive behavior in order to show that those who don’t behave well in society will face their downfall sooner or later. As for the other video games, the developers and publishers simply don’t care, but that doesn’t mean that they encourage any kind of antisocial behavior.

Video games can actually benefit the player’s mental health, and here’s how:

Stimulating ambition and reflexes

Many times in video games, such as shooters like Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, or Sniper Ghost Warrior, the player needs to be extremely careful to shoot his opponents at the right moment. If he delays even a second, that can be enough for him to miss the mark and become the next target in the game. In a game like those from the FIFA series, on the other hand, you constantly need to be aware of your opponent’s moves and tactics, while at the same time, you need to apply yours at the right time. In other words, there’s a lot of strategic thinking needed to win a match in a FIFA game, which is another confirmation that video games stimulate your mind a lot.

The more you progress through an RPG game, for instance, the harder the game itself will become. If the current level isn’t enough for you and you need the game to become harder, don’t worry, as most video games offer you the option to increase difficulty. In other words, video games seriously stimulate the players’ ambition.

Reducing stress

A lot of those who like to play video games say that such a task induces them a state of relaxation, which will automatically reduce their stress. It’s a fact that stress is one of the biggest problems in our society, and it can occur because of countless factors: politicians, our jobs, our bosses, not getting paid enough, not getting the chance to succeed at the job, and many more.

Prolonged and chronic stress can also significantly impact both our physical and mental health, and that could potentially contribute to the development of various diseases. If you want a list of health conditions that have been associated with chronic stress, you can consider depression, anxiety, hypertension, immune system suppression, gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, and type 2 diabetes.

Guess what conditions such as depression or type 2 diabetes can do to you if you don’t treat it? Both of these two conditions can have serious consequences for a person’s health, such as contributing to severe complications that could even be potentially life-threatening.

You got the idea: playing video games can help you get rid of stress, while stress can lead to even worse conditions if you don’t take good care of it.

Ultimately, we must all be well aware that video games are useful only as long as you use them in the right way. Excessively playing video games would certainly not be a good idea in most cases. But excess, in general, is not good, regardless of what domain you apply it to.

Microsoft is now offering free digital copies of Crackdown. This special offer seems to prepare the fans of the series for the Crackdown 3 release date which is scheduled for in about eight days.

When it first came out on Xbox 360, in 2007, Crackdown was quick to become a successful title. The superhero-style power fantasy gameplay attracted many players who became hooked on the title. Four Next Xbox Consoles Are Under Development At Microsoft

Undoubtedly, all the major console manufacturers, namely, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, are working on their next-gen video games consoles. While the fans expect more details on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2019 versions, Microsoft is developing no less than four Xbox consoles. The giant tech company is working on the Xbox Scarlett project, which would be made up of two consoles (codenamed Anaconda and Lockhart), as well as on two other systems, dubbed as Maverick and Xbox One S Revision.

While both the consoles within the Xbox Scarlett project would be next-gen video games consoles, thus, the equivalent of Sony’s PlayStation 5, the other two projects, known as Maverick and Xbox One S Revision, would be a streaming-only system and an updated current-gen console, respectively.

Four Next Xbox Consoles Are Under Development At Microsoft

Xbox Scarlett – Anaconda

Xbox Scarlett – Anaconda, one of the four next Xbox consoles that are under development at Microsoft, and one of the future next-gen Xbox consoles, would be the most powerful of the next-gen consoles that Microsoft would release. It’s dedicated to hardcore gamers and would roll out in 2020 if we were to believe the recent reports and rumors. It would come out along with the Lockhart variant about which we’ll talk below.

Xbox Scarlett – Lockhart

The Lockhart console of the Xbox Scarlett project would have the same role the current-gen Xbox One S has. Thus, Xbox Scarlett – Lockhart would be less potent than Anaconda so that it would be dedicated to casual gamers. It would also be the more affordable version of the two Xbox Scarlett consoles. Thus it would attract budget players.

Xbox Maverick

Also one of the four next Xbox consoles under development at Microsoft at this moment, Xbox Maverick would roll out in spring 2019, according to some recent reports, and it would be a streaming-only console. Maverick would also be the first Xbox console without a disk drive. As it’s not part of the Xbox Scarlett project, Maverick would be current-gen.

Xbox One S Revision

The second, and presumably the last, current-gen console that Microsoft is working on, Xbox One S Revision would also come out in 2019. While it won’t ditch the disc drive like Maverick, Xbox One S Revision would take advantage of the new xCloud function. The goal of Microsoft is to come out with a cheaper variant for the current Xbox One S.

Xbox DVR is Now Available to Download for Smartphones

One of the greatest features of the Xbox One is the option to capture screenshots and media that can be stored easily. The task becomes a bit more complicated when users want to share the content.

The device allows you to instantly share your content on the social media but transferring the files to your PC in older to edit the videos is not really intuitive. The vast majority of users will either share the content privately and download it after or upload it on OneDrive, an option that will take a while.

More advanced users will use Xbox DVR; a site offers a way to download your content without any problems. Those that tried to do the same thing by using the official Xbox website will appreciate the initiative.

If you want to wish the website all you need to do is to create an account and enter your gamertag. You will be able to view a selection of content ranging from screenshots to clips, achievements and that funny gif you found while waiting for the lobby to fill.

While the website is pretty intuitive users will be able to enjoy the newly released apps for iOS and Android. The apps pack a variety of features among which we can count a search function that will allow you to easily track down a particular video, share your content on a variety of social platforms, download them for later use and do some basic editing.

Some features remain exclusive to the website like the ability to natively support Twitch and YouTube integration, comments and music playlists.

Is important to note that if you wish to capture high-quality videos a high-performance capture card is better since it can directly save the content on your computer without having to worry about filling the HDD of the console and slowing down the game.

The apps can be found on the official website and the app stores.

October Xbox Update Brings Revamped Avatars and Dolby Vision Support, Among Others

Microsoft has just announced that its October Xbox update for its renowned video games console is now available and brings revamped avatars and Dolby Vision support.

October Xbox update brings revamped avatars and other features

The primary novelty of the new update is the introduction of the new, revamped Xbox avatars, initially announced by Microsoft in 2016. The enhanced avatars offer greater customization options, especially regarding diversity and accessibility. The revamped Xbox avatars, including different body types, wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs, can be accessed via the “Closet” section under the Avatar Editor menu.

Also, the Avatar Store would now permit users to acquire some new outfits and other equipment for their Avatars, such as items inspired by the Halo and Gears of War franchises. According to the official Microsoft Xbox site, new content would be added to this section on a monthly basis.

As Microsoft reported, users can still use the original avatars if they want that, as the older avatars would remain available in the Xbox Original Avatars. Also, the new Photo Booth mode will allow users to place their avatars in various poses and backgrounds to come up with pics that can be useful as profile pictures.

October Xbox update also comes with Dolby Vision support

The new Xbox update also adds Dolby Vision to the Xbox One, Dolby’s high-dynamic range (HDR) format. Until now, the Xbox One used HDR 10 support, which is actually the current standard, but the new Dolby Vision is meant to bring more vivid color schemes. For example, the same technology is now used by Netflix apps on several compatible TVs, as well as by Apple TV 4K and the Google Chromecast Ultra.

Accordingly, Xbox One, thanks to the recent October Xbox update, becomes the third streaming device to support Dolby Vision, besides Apple TV 4K and Google Chromecast Ultra.
