Apple To Make Its Own Modems Out Of China If Tariffs Reach 25%

According to Bloomberg News, in case the tariffs on US imports skyrocket, Apple would move its production away from China. As reported, Apple is planning to make its own modems out of China if tariffs reach 25%.

In the meantime, Apple’s supplier will stick to the current model, although the US might impose a rise of 10% on smartphones imports, according to some sources close to the Cupertino-based company. However, they said that Apple’s suppliers would move the production out of China in the case Donald Trump will impose a 25% increase in imports tariffs.

“iPhones – the majority of which are made by assembly partner Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. in China and shipped around the world – have so far been spared in a tit-for-tat trade war between the world’s two largest economies. But Trump told the Wall Street Journal last month that tariffs could be slapped on smartphones and laptops made in China, the world’s largest manufacturer of electronics,” wrote Financial Post, citing Bloomberg News.

Apple To Make Its Own Modems Out Of China If Tariffs Reach 25%

China has always been the HQ of Apple’s production of components and devices, but the company might get affected by the trade war between the United States and China, the world’s largest economies. If the US financial authorities increase imports tariffs by 25%, then the Cupertino-based company must rethink its strategy.

To counteract the potential imports tariffs rise, Apple might be forced to make its own modems out of China, at first, while they would move all the production of its devices out of the world’s second-largest economy.

Recently, Tim Cook surprised everyone by saying that “it’s not true that the iPhone is not made in the United States.” He explained that some iPhone and iPad components, such as the iPhone glass cover, are produced in the US, and then they are shipped to China for assembly. Everything will change if the US raises the imports tariffs by 25%.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Cancellation Is In The Rumors

Samsung Galaxy S10 is the South Korean company’s anniversary smartphone to celebrate ten years of Galaxy S series. However, Samsung has confirmed the cancellation of Samsung Galaxy S10 feature. That information popped up thanks to a Forbes article written by Gordon Kelly.

“This week Samsung gave users a glimpse into the future of its smartphone design, and it features an all-new bezel-less ‘punch hole’ Infinity-O display and the end of the headphone jack,” said Gordon Kelly from Forbes.

“The Infinity-O display is the breaking news attributes of the recently released Samsung Galaxy A8s. “Its arrival also follows earlier reports that Samsung planned to remove the headphone jack from the Galaxy Note 10 and was now “toying” with pulling it from the Galaxy S10 as well. The USB-C port will be left, and a separate conversion jack will be provided for 3.5mm earphone users,” said Kelly, according to sources.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Cancellation Is In The Rumors

The new rumors revealed that the future Galaxy S10 would ditch the 3.5-mm jack, choosing the USB-C port, but, according to recent rumor. ” USB-C will be left, and a separate conversion jack will be provided for 3.5mm earphone users,” as the sources claimed for Forbes.

“Samsung still has enough time to tweak the Galaxy S10 in either direction (it is likely gauging the reaction to the Galaxy A8s as we speak) and leaked cases for the S10 have shown designs both with and without a headphone jack. But this one is clearly going down to the wire,” said Gordon Kelly from the Forbes.

“I suspect Samsung knows this, which is why the Galaxy S10 otherwise comes jampacked with cutting-edge features including the world’s first ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, up to four rear cameras, the option of 5G connectivity and a new entry-level budget model,” Kelly added on Forbes.

Nintendo Switch Won’t Get A Revision Anytime Soon

Last month, Reggie Fils-Aime stated for Forbes that Nintendo Switch Online would allow members to play all the Nintendo’s classic content. However, he changed his initial statement by saying that Nintendo will focus on holidays, leaving behind classic content.

“In terms of the legacy content, we’ve said that our focus right now is for NES content. And that’s what we’ll continue to push on,” said Fils-Aime in November.

“Right now, as we go into our second holiday, my focus is making sure the current grey and neon Switch continue to have momentum in the marketplace. You saw systems, whether it’s our own or competitive home console systems, utilize that tactic a bit later in the life cycle. So right now, the current execution of Nintendo Switch with the Joy-Con and all of the capabilities, that’s our focus right now,” said  Reggie Fils-Aime in a recent interview with Forbes.

Nintendo Switch Won’t Get A Revision Anytime Soon

“We’re feeling confident in our momentum and it’s not just a stellar launch of Pokémon, it’s not just what appears to be a stellar launch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. That Black Friday through Cyber Monday time frame was critically important to us, the remaining shopping days now through Christmas are critically important to us,” stated Fils-Aime.

“More days right after Christmas as consumers receive gift cards or take unwanted gifts and monetize into things like Nintendo Switch are important to us. So, this is going to be an ongoing effort to make sure that we drive our business forward through the balance of this holiday season but also the first calendar quarter as well,” added Reggie Fils-Aime.

In short, according to Fils-Aime statements, Nintendo Switch won’t get a revision anytime soon, as Nintendo is focusing on the current-gen console and classic content, as well.
