Fortnite Devs To Release A Set Of Tools That Simplifies Cross-Platform Multiplayer

In 2017, Epic Games switched on the cross-platform play in Fortnite, allowing gamers on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to play the game together. Back then, Epic Games representatives explained that “the cross-platform support was as easy as flipping a switch.” Now, the Fortnite devs are about to release a set of tools that simplifies cross-platform multiplayer.

In early 2019, Epic Games would launch its cross-platform online services toolkit for free, allowing developers “run parties, matchmaking, voice chat, and more that work across PC, Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android,” as VentureBeat reported.

“Successfully launching and operating a live, online game requires a suite of services that go far beyond the functionality of a traditional game engine. These services are expensive to build, test, and harden in real-world conditions, but once operational, are relatively inexpensive to scale to more games and more users. At Epic, our goal is to help game developers succeed,” said Epic Games.

Fortnite Devs To Release A Set Of Tools That Simplifies Cross-Platform Multiplayer

Epic Games plans to launch its cross-platform SDK in the first half of 2019, most likely in the early months of the next year. Also, throughout 2019, Epic Games will release new features for the before-mentioned service. Third-party devs should expect the following:

  • Cloud saves – in Q1 2019
  • Login, entitlements, and social functions – in Q2 and Q3 2019
  • Voice chat – in Q3 2019
  • Parties and matchmaking – most probably in Q3 and Q4 2019

“As you can see from our game and engine efforts, we’re also working on further support for user-generated content, enhanced social features, anti-cheat, and more. Besides these existing account and service integrations, we’re eager to work with partners on further efforts to connect accounts, gaming services, and cloud services for a more seamless experience,” said Epic Games, Fortnite devs, in an official blog post.

Nintendo Switch Won’t Get A Revision Anytime Soon

Last month, Reggie Fils-Aime stated for Forbes that Nintendo Switch Online would allow members to play all the Nintendo’s classic content. However, he changed his initial statement by saying that Nintendo will focus on holidays, leaving behind classic content.

“In terms of the legacy content, we’ve said that our focus right now is for NES content. And that’s what we’ll continue to push on,” said Fils-Aime in November.

“Right now, as we go into our second holiday, my focus is making sure the current grey and neon Switch continue to have momentum in the marketplace. You saw systems, whether it’s our own or competitive home console systems, utilize that tactic a bit later in the life cycle. So right now, the current execution of Nintendo Switch with the Joy-Con and all of the capabilities, that’s our focus right now,” said  Reggie Fils-Aime in a recent interview with Forbes.

Nintendo Switch Won’t Get A Revision Anytime Soon

“We’re feeling confident in our momentum and it’s not just a stellar launch of Pokémon, it’s not just what appears to be a stellar launch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. That Black Friday through Cyber Monday time frame was critically important to us, the remaining shopping days now through Christmas are critically important to us,” stated Fils-Aime.

“More days right after Christmas as consumers receive gift cards or take unwanted gifts and monetize into things like Nintendo Switch are important to us. So, this is going to be an ongoing effort to make sure that we drive our business forward through the balance of this holiday season but also the first calendar quarter as well,” added Reggie Fils-Aime.

In short, according to Fils-Aime statements, Nintendo Switch won’t get a revision anytime soon, as Nintendo is focusing on the current-gen console and classic content, as well.

PlayStation 5 – Everything We Know So Far

Recently, Sony announced that it wouldn’t participate at the E3 2019, news that shocked many of the video games industry enthusiasts. However, at the same time, the Japanese company announced that it would reveal something significant in 2019, and fans believe it would be about PlayStation 5, the next-gen console of Sony.

On the other hand, Sony did not reveal anything meaningful about its future PlayStation 5 console, so everything we have comes thanks to leakers and rumors. However, we know for sure that Sony is currently working on the PlayStation 5 (or whatever it would call it, as it might come out with another name).

PlayStation 5 Would Come Out Between 2019 and 2021

As I’ve already mentioned, Sony revealed nothing meaningful regarding its next-gen console, so we don’t know when PS5 would come out. However, according to some rumors, PlayStation 5 would come out anytime between 2019 and 2021. Most likely, PS5 would hit the shelves in 2020, but there’s nothing official to confirm that release date.

In reality, 2020 sound like the ideal year for a PS5 release since Sony is skipping E3 2019, and, apparently, it’s working on something big. There should be a good reason behind the Japanese company’s decision to ditch next year’s E3.

PS5 Would Launch With An Astonishing Design

We don’t know how the PlayStation 5 would look like, and there is no official information on that, so everything we know about Sony’s next-gen console design comes from concepts released on the Internet, allegedly, based on various leaks.

In the image below, you can see the latest PlayStation 5 concept:

PlayStation 5 Backward Compatibility and Graphics

As in the case with the other rumors regarding PS5, the PlayStation 5 backward compatibility is not officially announced by Sony. So, everything we have on this topic comes from rumors. Accordingly, PlayStation 5 might indeed come out with backward compatibility, allowing users to play PS4 games and, who knows, maybe even PS3 titles. That would be lovely, wouldn’t be?

As for the PS5 graphics, recent leaks an rumors say that PlayStation 5 would go beyond the 4K of PS4 Pro so that it would support 8K resolutions and 120 FPS.
