Samsung Galaxy S10 In-display Fingerprint Sensor Receives a Patch via an Update

Samsung is trying a series of patches in order to fix their in-display fingerprint sensor after users complained that the reader works slow and it is inefficient. The company is using a Qualcomm ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor in Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus, which makes it the second phone in the U.S. to offer an in-display unlock setting after the OnePlus 6T.

While the OnePlus 6T’s in-display sensor used light, Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor uses sound to read the ridges of a fingerprint through the display, which means that it should work much better through water or grease. However, users reported that the option on the Samsung Galaxy S10 was awfully inconsistent.

Samsung Galaxy S10 received in-display fingerprint sensor patch via an update

Samsung had issued a new patch to the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus which apparently will make the in-display fingerprint sensor faster and better than ever. There is no way to manually activate the update for the new patch included in the new software update is delivered via Galaxy Store, and you’ll have to wait until it gets to your device.

There were users who already received the patch and reportedly said the update made the fingerprint sensor better but there were others who reported that they feel no difference between before and after the update. Despite the fact that it seems the new patch works or not, Samsung seems to try to figure out ways to fix it and offer the users of their devices a better experience.

We are sure that the sensor will improve as Samsung adjusts the software over time. Given the number of frequent updates Samsung is releasing for their phones, the fingerprint sensor’s efficiency may be very different by the time the phone ships.

Facebook Wants to Merge the Messenger App Back on Facebook App

Facebook is coming with a new idea regarding its Messenger app, an idea that could return the chat app to the main app. If that happens, you will access your social media feeds like always, plus have the messages in one spot as well. The company will keep the Messenger app icon, but when you access it, Facebook will open and will take you to a section called “Chats.” If you look back, this was the original way in which Facebook has worked until 2011, and it was removed entirely from the main app in 2014.

However, reporter Jane Manchung Wong had found that Facebook wants to make those changes, but the company is still making tests. She also found that the testing version has basic text, no calls, video or photos, and no reactions.

Why Is Facebook Going Back to the Original Version?

According to Wong, Facebook wants to integrate all of its services. That means that the plan is to unify Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram for user privacy by adding end-to-end encryption. Of course, all of them will continue to work as standalone apps, and only the underlying architecture will be shared.

Also, Facebook has announced that they have thousands of developers that are working on the project, and the plans are to finish the project in late 2019, or early 2020. Facebook has published a statement about this news, saying that the purpose is to improve the messaging experience for people inside the Facebook app. That’s why they are making tests for merging Messenger back in the main Facebook app.

Summing up, Messenger will remain a feature-rich, stand-alone messaging app used by over a billion people around the world. Users are using the app each day to connect with people or businesses, so this might be a significant change for them.

Boost Your Digital Security With A New Authentication Method From Google

In recent years, many internet users have started to take more steps in an attempt to improve the security and privacy of their online accounts. Many companies, including Google, strive to improve the security level of their services, but there are always additional vulnerabilities which can be exploited by malicious third-party entities. A simple password isn’t always enough, and hacking methods have evolved to become better as time passes.

Most services which require an online account will offer the option to use two-factor authentication. Some users may see the feature as a waste of time since you will need to take additional steps before you can access your account, but they are an excellent way to enjoy extra security at no additional costs.

Google implements a new authentication method to boost users’ digital security

Google has recently announced that some Android users will have the option to use their device as a security token for two-factor authentication. A dedicated token can be quite expensive to acquire and set up, so the fact that such a feature will be available for free is great. The company already offers several 2FA methods, but some of them can be exploited by someone who knows how to manage potential issues.

Users who wish to use the new feature will have to own an Android smartphone which runs Android 7 or better. A PC or laptop which can run Chrome is also needed to complete the process. After starting Chrome on the PC users will have to connect their smartphone to the browser by using Bluetooth. The new authentication protocol is compatible with a large selection of Google services like Gmail, G Suite and other. It is likely that other sites and services may be added in the future after the authentication service will be certified.

Select users will observe similarities between the new service and the existing Google Prompt authentication option. Unlike Google Prompt the new protocol will require the presence device, a trait which has the potential to be very effective in the case of spoofing attempts.

UK Government Leak Reveals an Improved Feature on iPhone 11 – NFC Support

The new feature iPhone is going to have will be available at the end of the year, Home Secretary Sajid Javid said, speaking about the mobile application developed for the Home Office of the UK Government. The application will help register foreign nationals in the United Kingdom as the departure of the UK from the European Union issue is on the table and more in dispute as ever.

Developers had no sight of the iPhone hardware parts as Apple has been prohibitive without exception but now, this one area looks like it is ready to be released.

The ID Document Check app checks a resident’s identity from far away by authenticating the chip in their passport or identity card, scanning their information and adding it to the application. To check if the document belongs to the candidate, face recognition is used to verify their identity, Sajid Javid said.

UK Government Leak Reveals an Improved Feature on iPhone – NFC Support

Apple will make available the identity document check the app on their devices by the end of this year. The third-party developers weren’t able to use the iPhone’s NFC chip to carry out the same job because of Apple’s fully implemented restrictions – even if the feature was already available on Android.

Apple must have changed its policy about NFC access if Javid made such a declaration. We don’t think that this feature will only be available for the United Kingdom Government, so developers can get ready to put the NFC functionality to use to the iOS-powered iPhone from Android apps.

What this means is that every iPhone devices can be used in numerous real-world contexts as for example opening hotel rooms, getting tickets for mass transit structures, and by utilizing NFC for identification, a faster Bluetooth pairing, and even more.

iTunes To Be Separated Into Three Different Apps in the Next macOS Versions

The news that Apple will break iTunes functionalities into three different parts in next macOS versions: Music, TV, and Podcasts in its next version of macOS are welcomed with thrills by the Apple devices users.

The not so good news is that iTunes still won’t completely go away. But there is time and this is a step forward Apple is making towards winning more fans and cutting this not-so-amazing and practical functionality in their devices.

Guilherme Rambo and Steve Troughton-Smith, Apple’s famous developers have separately confirmed Apple’s plans to divide iTunes into three different apps. The Books app will get a substantial redesign besides the standalone Music, TV and Podcast apps.

Apple’s Project Marzipan aims to give the developers the possibility to port iOS apps to macOS by permitting the two platforms to use the same codebase, and the new apps are based on it.

iTunes To Be Separated Into Three Different Apps in the Next macOS Versions

Apple made it big last year with the News app for macOS and the three previously mentioned apps to be released this year.

The Books app which is already out for macOS will be redesigned utilizing Marzipan Project to match it with the iOS app. The new face of the model will show a sidebar very much alike the News app that will keep a list of the owned books, audiobooks, PDFs, and other collections. The title bar will have labels for Library, Book Store, and Audiobook Store.

Although all this sounds great, people who still use older iOS devices, along with iPods, will have to keep using iTunes to sync music because the iPod Shuffle and Nano were still sold on the market until the year 2017.

Apple will reveal more about its upcoming version of macOS in June, at the company’s Worldwide Developer Conference.
