iPhone X Jailbroken – Someone Finds a Second Stage of an Exploit Chain

Qixun Zhao (@S0rryMybad), a security researcher with the Qihoo 360 Vulcan Team, discovered a way to jailbreak the latest iOS system on iPhone X using a second stage of an exploit chain.

On 23rd of January, Zhao let his followers know of a kernel vulnerability that can be reached in the sandbox releasing proof of concept (PoC). He also dubbed it as Chaos. Regarding the tfp0 exploit, he provides intricate details for beginners, but the exploit code is not revealed.

Instead of doing so, he stated that you would need to wait for the jailbreak community’s release or complete the exploit code yourself if you want to jailbreak. In addition to that, he would not mention the exploit details of the posted exploit because that is the jailbreak community’s responsibility as they are handling it.

The jailbreak is demonstrated by Zhao in a video posted to Twitter.

Zhao, following his intuition, said he believed that a path that would cause a leak could be found and this is what he used before iOS 12 was even a plan.

Zhao also wrote that after seeing the code he realized that the quality is not high enough and it lacks review. You can reach the code directly in the sandbox which means that the kernel developer might not be familiar with what they should do to generate MIG codes. Finding the bug is not more important than this information.

The fact that PAC mitigation was the end of UAF or jailbreak is a misguided belief so Zhao added that you can still use the UAF hole in the PAC environment. You need to convert the type obfuscation if you want to be closer to using the UAF vulnerability as it also depends on the released object’s data structures.

What will the iPhone X2 look like? – Sliding Camera at the Top

The next flagship phone from Apple did not receive a name yet so we are still unsure whether we should call it iPhone X2 or iPhone XI as the company kept its mouth shut. However, we got excited by the concept from Antonio de Rosa, the popular designer, of how the phone should function and look. The newest addition to the iPhone X2 is a slider to lift the camera.

Sliders Not New to Phones

Not more than a decade ago phones used to have a slider at the bottom that would reveal the keyboard. Now as every phone manufacturing is focusing on getting rid of everything that can make the display of their phones smaller, models like Oppo Find X and  Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 use sliding mechanisms to hide the cameras. In the concept designed by de Rosa, the slide is located in the back panel, and it lifts the rear cameras so they can take pictures.

Several Specifications Added to the Concept Design

What we can see from the video provided is that the iPhone X2 concept phone sports a  Super Retina display with a high pixel density of 458ppi and a screen resolution of 3000 x 1386 pixels. The cameras which are held by the slider will appear in just 0.15 seconds responding to a switch. Within the Apple logo, there is a fingerprint sensor hidden on the rear panel.

The color of the phone is also attractive as it features a double tone effect.

What you should keep in mind is that this design might not be accepted by the manufacturer and that this is only how the artist would like the phone to look like. Apple has hundreds of designs to choose from, so we can’t get attached to this one.

iPad Pro 2018 is the Bigger iPhone X? See what Features will the Tablet Get from the Phone

Over the last few months, the rumors about an upcoming iPad Pro launch kept getting more and more often on the internet. According to them, it seems like the awaited Apple tablet will have some similarities to the iPhone X.

Usually, every iPad and iPhone display would come with squared-off edges, but when the iPhone X arrived in the game, it changed it all featuring a display with rounded edges aiming to match the handset’s curvature.

After significant digs through the iOS 12 developer data, 9to5Mac has found an asset similar to a visual mask which might be used to round the UI’s corners. This asset comes with the codename J3XX, and it is considered an indicator of 2018’s iPad Pro model.

It seems like this information suggest that the 2018 iPad Pro will look like the iPhone X due to the introduction of rounded corners on the device’s display.

Will the iPad Pro turn into iPad Pro X?

After taking into consideration the rumors that iPad Pro will support the Face ID technology and the UI mask, there are no other proofs needed to believe that the 2018 model of the tablet will not feature a Home button and its bezels will be significantly reduced.

According to 9to5Mac, there are more juicy hints enforcing this rumors, and it is here to inform the Apple fans. These are the two small icons in a diagnostic of the battery usage. The tiny tiles we are talking about giving hints about a future model that will lack a Home button and prominent bezels plus a model which will not.

If you are wondering what tablet you should buy and you are a fan of iPhone X, you should take into account the possibility of purchasing the 2018 iPad Pro.

Third Quarter for Apple is all About iPhone X

We’ll be looking for clues about the next iPhone when Apple will show their fiscal results for this year.

Apple gives only small tips when it comes to announcing its new phone. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, gives some bombastic comments, for e.g. we are expecting an “exciting fall”. For financial analysts this will help estimate how many phones they’ll be able to sell in September after the new iPhone will be released.

The third quarter for Apple in financial terms means it’s the lowest period of each year when it comes to sales. For example, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus have been released last September meaning they are in sales for over 9 months.

During this second and third quarter people have no longer an interest in the old iPhone but instead, they are looking forward for the next phone that comes to market. Last fall when they release iPhone X in November later than expected people still waited for the new iPhone or expected to lower prices for the older one.

Apple’s moneymaker is still the iPhone. They had some attempts to extend beyond the iPhone but all in vain. In Q2 of 2018 iPhone brought up 52.2 million phones that equal to 62% of sales. Also, services, iPad, Air Pods and Macs added to the earnings. Apple had strong results although some people thought the demand for the iPhone X has dropped.

The most expensive phone produced by Apple, the iPhone X started at $999 and was still the best-selling device in the last quarter of 2017.

The “future” of mobile devices came with iPhone X which redesigned its phone, removed the home button, expanded touchscreen to 5.8 inches and of course adding the new Face ID technology.

Sacconaghi predicts that the company sold 41.8 million iPhones in 2018, in comparison to 41.03 million in 2017.

As reported by Yahoo Finance shares had been rising to $2.18 a share from $1.67 a share last year. Also, sales are expected to grow up to 15% this year, roughly $52.3 billion.

September comes with big news for customers, Apple plans to introduce three new models: one which is considerably larger than iPhone X and a cheaper one.

Gene Munster from Loup Ventures figures that Apple’s iPhone has become a secure business. Business won’t see a sales pitch each year, but a flat 5% growth each year, as users won’t change their phones so frequently. We’ll see a growth in Apple Music, iCloud and App store, and that’s due to the large mass of consumers. Apple’s earnings grew up to 31%, that’s up to &9.19 billion in the second quarter, whilst sales grew up only to 2.8%.

On May 1st Cook said: “we have the best pipeline of products and services we’ve ever had”.

iPhone X’s On-screen Gestures Features on any iPhone with iOS 11

The iPhone X’s on-screen gestures feature is one of the most popular among users. It seems to have redefined the touchscreen interaction. The possibility of using the device by making some gestures on the screen is necessary because the iPhone X has a nearly bezel-less display and no Home button.

On the other hand, the iPhone X’s exclusive swipe gestures can be added on any other Apple phone. The only condition is that the device needs to be jailbroken. If your iOS 11 system has a reliable jailbreak, a mod will bring the mentioned feature to your iPhone equipped with Home button.

Thanks to this addition, you’ll be able to enjoy the same gesture-based abilities even if you don’t own the X. The best part is that you’ll also have some side button shortcuts (the Sleep/ Wake buttons). If you can’t wait to try it, you should know another important advantage – you can find this jailbreak tweak inside Cydia.

How to install the tweak

The tweak we’re talking about is called Little X. You can get it very easy by simply opening Cydia, then taping on the search function icon. Here you have to type the keyword “littlex” in the search bar. After it appears in the field with results, tap the tweak once.

This step will redirect you to the Details page. Here you have to tap on Modify category, which is situated in the upper part. Now the installation begins and you will see a confirmation prompt appearing from the bottom half. After you hit Install, you will go to the next page.

All you have to do now is tap Confirm (in the upper right). Now, just wait while the tweak is downloaded on your device. When the process is complete, restart the iPhone by selecting the Restart SpringBoard button and the installation will be complete. LittleX is ready for tweaking and you can enjoy the on-screen gesture feature on any iPhone.
