Sony Dropped Out Of E3 2019 – Here’s Why, As Explained By Shawn Layden

Last year, in an announcement that shocked the gaming community, to some extent, Sony dropped out of E3 2019, stating, back then, that it would make some big statements about its future plans before the E3 event of this year. However, we didn’t receive a decent explanation of why Sony decided to move out of E3 2019 until now when PlayStation’s Shawn Layden came out to give more details.

“When we decided to take video games out of CES, back in 1995 during the PlayStation 1 era, E3 served two constituencies – retailers and journalists (…) There was a huge educational component (…) And there was no internet to speak of. So a trade show at that time of year for this nascent industry was exactly what we needed to do,” said Shawn Layden.

“So the trade show became a trade show without a lot of trade activity. The world has changed, but E3 hasn’t necessarily changed with it,” he continued.

Here’s Why Sony Dropped Out Of E3 2019, According to Shawn Layden

“Now we have an event in February called Destination PlayStation, where we bring all retailers and third-party partners to come to hear the story for the year. They’re making purchasing discussions in February. June, now, is just too late to have a Christmas holiday discussion with retailers. So retail has really dropped off. And journalists now, with the internet and the fact that 24/7 there is game news, it’s lost its impact around that,” Layden added.

On the other hand, “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you,” said Sony’s representatives for Variety last year when the company announced that it will not participate at E3 2019.

In conclusion, Sony dropped out of E3 2019 because the most significant game fair of the year is not anymore suitable for Sony’s plans. So, the Japanese company decided to come up with their own trade shows, focused on PlayStation, mostly.

Apex Legends Is The Newest Battle Royale Game, And It’s Already Very Successful

With no pre-release marketing campaign and without even announcing much about it, Respawn Entertainment, the producers of the popular Titanfall, launched their first Battle Royale game, Apex Legends. The free-to-play game, currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, is already very successful, totaling 25 million players in its first week on the market.

Undoubtedly, Apex Legends, designed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, is still far behind Fortnite, its main competitor in the Battle Royale segment, which totals more than 200 million players, out of which about 8 million are playing the game at any hour of the day.

Apex Legends will follow the same model that made Fortnite a famous game. Accordingly, Apex Legends would boast seasons just like Fortnite, and it would also receive additional content from time to time. The purpose of Respawn Entertainment is to make Apex Legends the best Battle Royale game in the world and finally dethrone Fortnite.

Apex Legends, The Newest Battle Royale Game, Totaled 25 Million Players Within One Week

“Been waiting all day to tell you this madness… [Apex Legends] hit 25 million players this morning. Read more about it at the link below. Remember we have Season One starting in March and more surprises coming,” announced Vince Zampella of Respawn Entertainment on Twitter.

While this figure represents a significant success for Apex Legends, the newest Battle Royale game in the world has much work to do to dethrone Fortnite. But Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts know that, and they are already working on that. First, Apex Legends Season 1 would kick off in March. Next, Season 2 would start in June and would add new Legends to the game. Also, the mobile version of Apex Legends would come out later this year, reportedly.

All that, plus the other changes the devs are preparing for Apex Legends, might indeed make Apex Legends the most successful Battle Royale game ever, finally, challenging the dominance of Fortnite and PUBG, as well, why not.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 – What To Expect From The Future 2-in-1 Device?

Since 2012 when the Microsoft Surface lineup has launched, the giant tech company rolled out many Surface devices, including Surface Book, Laptop, the portable Surface Go, and so on. However, the Surface Pro remained unchanged over time, boasting the same design since the first model rolled out. The future Microsoft Surface Pro 7 2-in1 device could come out with a revamped design, USB-C, and many more. Let’s see what the upcoming Surface Pro 7 might bring.

First, you should know that we don’t have any official information from Microsoft regarding its future Surface Pro 2-in-1 device, so everything presented here comes from rumors. Thus, take everything with a grain of salt until Microsoft comes out with some official details about the Microsoft Surface Pro 7.

What To Expect From The Future Microsoft Surface Pro 7?

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 to come with a slimmer design

As we’ve already mentioned above, the design of the Microsoft Surface Pro lineup has not changed much since the launch of the first model. Surface Pro 7, however, might come out with a revamped design. According to a patent filed by Microsoft, it’s possible that the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 7 to equip a slimmer and redesigned Type Cover with haptic feedback.

Also, the device would come with thinner bezels. In addition to all that, the height of the Surface Pro 7 would be reduced, suggesting a significant change in comparison with the previous generation models.

Would Surface Pro 7 equip USB-C?

While the majority of the other Microsoft’s modern tablets and laptops come with both USB-A and USB-C, Surface Pro models don’t boast a USB-C port. However, the lineup’s fans would love to see USB-C on Surface Pro 7. But how possible would that be?

A patent filed in May 2018 by Microsoft, suggested that the future Microsoft Surface Pro 7 would equip a special magnetic USB-C cable for charging. Accordingly, Surface Pro 7 would indeed boast USB-C but with a tweak.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 might pack Whiskey Lake or Ice Lake CPUs

Back in 2018, Surface Pro 6 was the first in the series to pack new-gen quad-core CPUs, but not the latest Whiskey Lake processors. Therefore, Microsoft Surface Pro 7 would be the first to boast either Whiskey Lake or Ice Lake CPUs. Undoubtedly, that would be a significant addition from Microsoft as it would boost the performance of the upcoming Surface Pro 7.

Besides, since Surface Pro 6 launched in October 2018, we should expect Microsoft Surface Pro 7 to come out in October this year, too. However, Microsoft might delay the launch of Surface Pro 7 to 2020.

Cryptocurrency-Stealing Malware Spotted On Google Play Store

IT security specialists from ESET discovered a new type of cryptocurrency-stealing malware, a so-called “Clipper,” in some Google Play Store applications. ESET reported their worrying findings to Google which was quick to remove the infected apps.

It seems that the new type of malware employed a very straightforward method to steal cryptocurrency from wallet users. To transfer crypto to another account, users need to enter the recipient’s address in their wallet application. But, these crypto addresses are long and challenging to enter manually, so many users copy-paste them.

The cryptocurrency-stealing malware steps in and replaces the copied address with the one operated by its developers. It does that by surveying the system’s clipboard, and the replacement takes place automatically when the malware detects something looking like a crypto wallet address. Besides, this malware also stole the user’s credentials and private keys off the system’s clipboard.

Cryptocurrency-Stealing Malware Spotted On Google Play Store, Removed By Google

The so-called “Clipper” cryptocurrency-stealing malware has been affecting Windows users since 2017. However, its Android variant came out in mid-2018, but it was only affecting Android apps outside of Google Play Store. Now, ESET spotted the cryptocurrency-stealing malware known as “Clipper” in several apps on Google Play Store.

One of the apps ESET revealed as infected with “Clipper” is the MetaMask App. The thing is the original and legitimate MetaMask, an Ethereum-based DApp, is not having an Android app. So, the MetaMask application on the Google Play Store is a third-party application designed by cyber criminals to steal cryptocurrency funds. “We would appreciate if Google Play Devs would reserve trademarked names for apps, especially repeat phishing targets like us,” the original MetaMask DApp’s devs said on Twitter.

Undoubtedly, keeping the security of Google Play Store apps is a challenging task for Google since dozens of new apps are coming out daily. In our case, luckily, thanks to ESET, Google removed MetaMask and other apps affected by the “Clipper” cryptocurrency-stealing malware.
