WhatsApp, The Most Popular Messaging App Of The Moment, Would Stop Supporting Older Smartphones In 2019

Starting with 2019, on some mobile devices, the WhatsApp application will stop working with constant updates, as the operating systems and some devices became too old for the popular instant messaging app to work flawlessly.

Without a doubt, WhatsApp is the most popular and appreciated messaging application around the world. Developed independently, WhatsApp was purchased by Facebook a few years ago and became one of the most popular messaging applications in te world. It allows users to send text messages, initiate video calls and voice calls for free. WhatsApp only requires an Internet connection to work.

However, next year, WhatsApp will stop working on some older smartphones and operating systems. As a consequence of the constant updates of the application that arrive more and more frequently, and the new and more sophisticated features the WhatsApp application implements on a regular basis,  many mobile devices would not be able to allow users have a flawless experience with WhatsApp.

WhatsApp, The Most Popular Messaging App Of The Moment, Would Stop Supporting Older Smartphones In 2019

Whatsapp will stop working on all those devices that have an Android 2.3.7 operating system, Apple iPhones mobiles that have IOS 7 or lower, and the Nokia S40, running the old-school Symbian OS.

The users of the before-mentioned devices would not be able to make new updates to the WhatsApp application, so, once the current version of the most popular instant messaging app expires, users won’t be able to re-create their accounts on WhatsApp.

Apple has not disclosed WhatsApp usage on iOS 7 or lower, but, according to Google’s data, there are about 6 million smartphones in the world using WhatsApp on Android 2.3.7 or lower. The measure would, therefore, affect about a dozen users on both iOS and Android, if we estimated that the number of iOS 7 WhatsApp users are at least equal with those on Android 2.3.7.

5G-Compatible Smartphones To Come In Early-2019 From AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint

Everyone wants a fast and performant smartphone. Besides, as more and more devices are interconnected, such as mobiles, smartwatches, bracelets, cars, and so on, the speed of the mobile data connection becomes significant and makes the difference. This requires greater stability of connectivity. Accordingly, 5G is the next generation of mobile data connection.

Similar to 4G or 3G, 5G is a wireless connection designed to keep a large number of devices connected without slowing down their operation. With this network, you can have many devices connected.

This technology has already arrived, and the first phones with this new network will be on sale as soon as 2019. The telecommunications company AT&T said on Tuesday that it would launch its first 5G phone in the first half of 2019. Reportedly, it would be a Samsung device, maybe Samsung Galaxy S10, although no official statement in this regard has been provided.

5G-Compatible Smartphone To Come In Early-2019 From AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint

Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint have also reported that they would launch 5G-compatible smartphones in early-2019.

However, for the time being, not every smartphone user would need the 5G mobile network in their day to day tasks. This new network will offer faster speeds when surfing the Internet and better connectivity, but for now, we won’t need so much data on our devices.

In addition to that, 5G will be limited to a few countries when it would roll out in 2019, so most people will not have access to this next-generation network. For this reason, companies such as Apple have confirmed that they will wait until 2020 to release devices compatible with the 5G connection.

The 5G would also be present in the internet connection at home, making us forget about cable connections without worrying about lower Internet speeds.

Xiaomi Surpassed Apple In Wearables Market, Scoring More Sales In Q3 2018 That The Cupertino-Based Company

The market for wearables, such as smartwatches or bracelets, is gaining more ground as it’s getting bigger every year and there’s more variety of companies launching their own products, but there are only two very different companies that are setting the pace for this industry – Xiaomi and Apple. Recently, Xiaomi managed to surpass Apple in the wearables market.

A recent study by IDC shows the evolution of sales of wearables and how Xiaomi surpassed those of the Cupertino-based company. Xiaomi sold more than 32 billion such devices in the third quarter of 2018, worldwide, 21.7% more than in the same period of the last year.

Apple doesn’t usually share a lot of Apple Watch sales data for any of its versions. That is why the data from the consulting firm IDC are of great help in corroborating what was already being speculated in the sector, that the smartwatches of Apple were gathering more ground, especially since the Apple Watch Series 3 has launched.

Xiaomi Surpassed Apple In Wearables Market, Scoring More Sales In Q3 2018 That The Cupertino-based Company

According to data provided by IDC, Apple sold about 4.2 million smartwatches in Q3 2018, which is a substantial increase over last year when they only sold only 2.7 million units.

Despite this spectacular growth, there is another company that has positioned itself at the top of the wearables market. With a very different type of business than Apple, the Chinese company Xiaomi, whose main characteristic is its supercompetitive prices, has sold more smartwatches in Q3 2018 than the Cupertino-based company.

The success is due to the Mi Band 3, a smart bracelet that sold to 6,9 billion consumers worldwide.

These two companies, Apple and Xiaomi, share the highest wearables market shares, with Xiaomi scoring 21.5%, while Apple only 13.1%. The other manufacturers of smartwatches and bracelets have not achieved so much momentum, Fitbit for example, managing to score fewer sales than in 2017.

Microsoft Surface Pro Slams Apple’s iPad Naming Itself The Real Computer Alternative

The Christmas campaign is approaching and the battles to be the best-selling device are emerging on YouTube. Microsoft’s latest ad promotes the company’s Surface Go by claiming it as the real computer alternative, somewhat directly attacking the Apple’s iPad.

In a short Christmas musical, Microsoft shows us a little girl singing and dancing to the sound of the advantages of Surface Go. Correctly, the lyrics of the song read like this:

“Grandma, don’t run off and buy an iPad. Now my dreams are big, and I need a real computer to do all the amazing things I can do. I would also like to learn how to write some code and help a nice manatee. The Surface Go is what I really want, to be the smartest me,” she says.

The Surface Go is Microsoft’s device that, in their words, combines the performance of a laptop and the portability of a tablet.

Microsoft Surface Pro Slams Apple’s iPad Naming Itself The Real Computer Alternative

From 449 €, with 64 Gb. of SSD and 4 Gb. of RAM, Windows 10 Home and a keyboard that is sold separately for 99 €, it is, without a doubt, a PC-tablet hybrid with Windows that you should take into account. Possibly, according to what Microsoft suggests in the Surface Pro ad they released on YouTube, the Surface Pro might be a computer with Windows for children.

And they are not wrong in comparing it to the iPad (not the iPad Pro), as both have a screen of about 10 inches (the iPad comes with a 9.7-inch display and the Surface Go boasts a 10-inch one). Also, they come with similar resolutions (a little more pixel density on the iPad), compatibility with keyboards and pencils, same weight, and the list of similarities can go on.

Whether or not the iPad is a real computer will have to be decided by each user. But there is no doubt that both Microsoft Surface Pro and iPad devices are in direct competition.
