iOS 12.1.2 Pros and Cons – Improved Security with Bug Fixes

The latest update for iOS has been released earlier in January.

The update adds a host of new features but it seems that some bugs escaped through the holes. Many users have complained on official and unofficial forums that they face a wide selection of issues ranging from weak battery life and FaceID to extensive connectivity issues. Read below to learn more about the update and the pros and cons of updating.

Advantages

  • Improved security

The latest update has improved the Safari browser. An Intelligent Tracking Prevention feature will prevent nosy site from monitoring your browser activity. Additional security features will allow you to flag old or reused passwords, share them with contracts and much more.

  • Some bugs were fixed

Issues that affected eSIM activation and connectivity were addressed by the update. UI lag, poor Bluetooth connection and weak Wi-Fi reception issues were also removed.

  • Dual SIM support on the latest models

Those that need or want to use the dual SIM feature will be now able to do so.

  • The update is mandatory if you want to use the full features of your Apple Watch

The ECG feature present on the latest version of the Apple Watch is now usable. It allows user to track the activity of their heart and it provide advice if something doesn’t seem to be right. The only problem is that users will have to install the latest update in order to be able to access the feature. It will not work otherwise.

Some quality-of-life improvements were also added. You can now switch cameras during FaceTime by tapping on the screen. VoiceOver is now more accurate and users can opt to hide the sidebar when they are browsing the latest news.

Disadvantages

Some of the bugs were already mentioned in the first lines of the articles. If you don’t need any of the new features right now it is advised to wait for a while. A new update that will fix the current issues should arrive in the following weeks.

iOS 12.1.2 Jailbreak: Was This Version Finally Available?

In the past few years, we had to witness the slow descent of the jailbreaking community. Apple made it almost impossible for developers to crack the latest iOS versions, and iPhone users had to get used to phones without jailbreak. However, lately, new reasons to hope appeared.

More recent versions of iOS were cracked and it appeared that jailbreak might regain some of its glory. The latest news make jailbreak fans more hopeful than ever. According to two researchers, the iOS 12.1.2 jailbreak is possible. Their names are Xialong Bai and Min Zheng and they announced their success on Twitter:

Finally! (Mach) Port-oriented Programming (a.k.a POP) Attack Proof 3: Get task_for_pid_0 & root on iOS 12.1.2 (iPhone XS Max with A12 core), by @bxl1989 and @SparkZheng . PAC bypassed now! pic.twitter.com/gL3LZMnqUj

— Xiaolong Bai (@bxl1989) January 15, 2019

Can we jailbreak iOS 12.1.2?

The two researchers claim that they managed to develop the jailbreak tool by exploiting the security measures of Apple. In order to do that, they used a Port-Oriented Programming (POP) attack. By doing this they were able to “crack” the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, gaining root access.

This is not all, it appears that they were able to go through the PAC system of the smartphones. However, if you are dreaming about a jailbreak tool for your iOS 12.1.2 iPhone, there is no reason to get excited yet. There is no assurance that an iOS 12.1.2 jailbreak will become available for the public.

There is a chance that the researchers will choose to report the vulnerabilities they discovered to Apple, which means that they will be fixed in upcoming updates. They could also choose to sell the jailbreak method to other hackers or third parties.

Apple iOS 12.1.2: Are They Ever Going to Fix the Problems?

iOS 12.1.2 from Apple was always the number one focus, and we keep getting reports of mobile data problems already. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Wi-Fi problems

There are many people out there who still upgrade to iOS 12.1.2, even if they got warnings. We’ve heard that the update is breaking the Wi-Fi, as well. So with problems with cellular data, and then problems with the Wi-Fi, really, is there something good with this upgrade?

People everywhere are complaining about Wi-Fi problems – and only after they’ve upgraded to iOS 12.1.2 – people from South America and North America and even Asia. It seems that people from the United States of America are suffering the most. Everyone seems to be complaining about this new upgrade.

What has Apple to say about this?

After all of these people talking about the new upgrade – and not cute things – Apple chooses to remain silent. It’s funny that the Apple Support service responds to the affected users, but not to help, but to ask them not to talk about this problem publicly.
Apple is right now beta testing the next upgrade – iOS 12.1.3, but the company didn’t really talk about what its update contains. They’re occupied with the legal concerns.

They must fix them as soon as possible

What’s true is that they must address the problems and fix them as soon as possible.
But up until then, you might want to stay away from this upgrade simply. If you can, you might also want to warn those who have no idea what they want to get in. You won’t always see all the problems, but really, why would you get yourself into something like this, for an update that doesn’t change your experience, but it makes it worse.

Apple iOS 12.1.2: Good Battery Life for iPhone?

We’ve all seen how, after iOS 12.1.1 cut off cellular data for some users, we believed it needed to act quickly. We are very fortunate that the iOS 12.1.2 is ready to meet the light of the day. Also, is it ready to do so? In such a short time, wouldn’t it cause more problems?

In this article, we’re going to tell you everything we know so far.

Who is this upgrade for?

iOS 12.1.2 can work with all iOS 11 devices, which means that the iPhone 5S or later devices, and iPad mini 2 or later devices, and the 6th generation of iPod touch or later devices are good to go.

It’s true, those compatible devices will automatically be prompted to upgrade, but if that does not happen to you, then you can do it manually, from Settings, to General, to Software Update. For beta testers, things run differently, as you might have to unroll your device for the update to appear.

It has about 85MB, but it can differ since different devices get different updates, so it may vary from an iPad to an iPhone.

What’s bad about it?

iOS 12.1.2 has not to be jailbroken yet, not even iOS 12 releases before this one, so you might want to stay away before you update it to the latest version. But as of now, we don’t really see any chances.

Are there any issues?

This new update doesn’t seem to fix the cellular data problem we’ve talked about at the beginning of the article. Others say that it has a problem with the Wi-Fi. If these problems make their way into our lives, Apple has to think fast and fix them as soon as possible.

However, there are no problems regarding the battery life – which is rare, if we are to be honest – and general stability doesn’t seem to cause any problems.

iOS 12.1.2 Update Cuts Mobile Data Connection for iPhone and iPad Devices

Apple launched the new iOS 12.1.2 version to address some bugs in the previous versions and to make some changes here and there. However, it seems that iOS 12.1.2 is moving from bad to worse for dozens of iPhone users around the world as, reportedly, the update cuts mobile data connection for iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, but also other iPhone models and iPad devices.

While the majority of iOS users are rushing to update the OS to the latest iOS 12.1.2 version, many reports rolled out on the Internet, on blogs, forums, and social media, all saying that the new iOS update is cutting mobile data connection for iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max. As for what has Apple said, the Cupertino-based company stated that it “addresses an issue that could affect cellular connectivity in Turkey for iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.”

That’s indeed ironic since, now, the issue expanded to all the iPhone 2018 models across the world, all these users having only one thing in common – the iOS 12.1.2 update.

iOS 12.1.2 Update Cuts Mobile Data Connection for iPhone and iPad Devices

According to dozens of reports posted on Twitter by iOS users, more and more iPhone owners are now suffering from mobile data connection drops after updating their devices to the new iOS 12.1.2 version. At first glance over those Twitter reports, the iOS 12.1.2 issue is affecting iPhone users across North America, Europe, Asia, and South America, as well.

“Thanks, Apple and Apple Support for the Christmas present. Since updating my iPhone to iOS 12.1.2 I can’t access cellular data,” said a Twitter user from New York, United States.

“AppleSupport, iPad Pro 2018 4g cellular only on iOS 12.1.1 and not 12.1.2? When will an update come? I sent you DM already,” said an iPad Pro 2018 user from India, showing that the iOS 12.1.2 updates is also affecting more Apple devices than iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max.

“AppleSupport, My iPhone X is having WiFi connection issues since I updated to iOS 12.1.2,” said an iOS user from Maryland, in the US, who is also the first to report a link between iOS 12.1.2 and potential WiFi connection errors.

While reports keep on flooding on social media, Apple did not share any comment on this iOS 12.1.2 bug. However, iOS 12.1.3 is just around the corner, as Apple started beta testing for this new version.
